Belgian Waffle Ride

Belgian Waffle Ride BWR BC is June 8 and BWR Mex is November 23. The premier and hardest events of their kind and the most unique one day cycling events in the world.

The most unique one day cycling events in the world - The Quad-Tripel Crown is the first four BWRs of the year, commencing in AZ March 1, BWR CA April 27, BWR UT May 24, and culminating in Bozeman, MT, June 29. Typically, 235 kms of suffering over sinuous, bone grinding unroads fraught with arduous climbs, mud, chocking dust, leg-numbing sleet or heat and winds. Created in the spirit of the great

Spring monuments, the Belgian Waffle Ride California (BWR CA) will take its peloton on a ronde through North County San Diego, where it will clatter through agrarian hamlets and the Ardenne-like hills—not over classic mountains per se, but rather a never ending string of climbs—along dirt or roughly paved roads carved through inland San Diego’s beautiful rural and sometimes forested backcountry. Unlike many other Spring events, this one will not simply be a one- or two-hump race suited to the smallest climber with the biggest lungs, as no one really likes that guy...

The BWR offers up terrain that is selective in the true sense of the word. Though Belgium’s sucking mud, pave, choking dust, sleet, and narrowly winding, bone grinding roads will be absent, BWR will throw plenty of challenging terrain into the teeth of the peloton. Indeed, it will proffer roads, the likes of which less hardened racers go out of their way to avoid. The hulking, primping, one-trick ponies who have made their reputations on the slender tendril of numerous lead-out men will find in the BWR a multifaceted, ugly, technical, tactical, grinding, pounding, relentless, spirit- sapping, muscle-cramping beatdown in the finest tradition of long road races. Lead-out not needed. Yes, there is unroads - dirt, gravel, sand, rocks- and water crossings, hills, wind and pain. Just the way we like it.

We hope you are taking some time to honor those U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the Armed Forces. Maybe you did so with a big group ride like we did.

In this shot, you have your chase group with .wertz and off the front heading up Bandy Canyon the first time.

The red dirt was only the invitation. 🌄

Now the course disappears deeper into the desert scripture. Beyond the painted hills. Beyond the familiar. Into the black mountains north of the Parowan Gap where the earth starts speaking in Spanish tongues and every mile feels slightly outlawed. This is part of the Old Spanish National Historic Trail.

This is equal parts champagne, Gucci, and gritty gravel with a floater of single track.

This is the Belgian Waffle Ride Utah. A proper gravel race carved through sagebrush fields, cattle roads, high desert silence, and the kind of terrain that asks honest questions of legs, lungs, equipment, and intent.

The new course is faster in places, really fast in others, and staggeringly beautiful throughout. A brutal, beautiful ribbon pulling riders into terrain that feels more moon landing than group ride.

June 13. Cedar City.

Bring fitness. Bring grit. Bring a little wonder for the wild places still left out there.
