California Freethought Day celebrates science, free speech, social justice, and more... every year! It's a festival of freethought.

California Freethought Day combines the fun and atmosphere of a fair with the education and activism of a conference. We'll have speakers and entertainment, an authors' and podcasters' panel, and more! Our event has occurred in October of every year since 2001. Our mission is to host an annual festival that encourages freedom of speech and thought, civic engagement, enthusiasm for science, social justice, and the separation of church and state. But we're more than just the annual event! We also offer annual scholarships, host statewide legislative advocacy and leadership events, and more.

Sir Patrick Stewart's impact extended far beyond the stage and screen. He championed human rights, spoke out against domestic violence, and used his voice to promote compassion, dignity, and respect for others.

Patrick’s optimism about humanity, often reflected in the characters he portrayed, resonated with many of us in the secular community. At California Freethought Day, we honor his talent, empathy, and selflessness, and we strive to help build the brighter future he believed humanity is capable of achieving.

Dolores Huerta dedicated her life to advancing civil rights, economic justice, and democratic participation. As a co-founder of the farmworker movement and a tireless community organizer, she helped empower working people to advocate for themselves and make their voices heard.

Throughout her career, she championed equal rights, women's rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and reproductive freedom, often challenging powerful institutions and religious leaders in pursuit of a more just society.

California Freethought Day honors those who, like Dolores, encourage civic engagement, defend individual liberties, and work to expand opportunities for others.
