One of Garrett’s favorite brands is Arnold & Son which, if you haven’t heard, John Arnold is the English analogy to AL Breguet. Friends in their time, legendary watchmakers forever.

We met Samir at the Atlanta Watch Salon and quickly became friends. As Garrett currently owns an HMS1, he was proud to show how much he values the craftsmanship and quality of Arnold & Son, a brand so steeped in history. We’ve even toyed with the notion that in another universe, the Holy Trinity is Breguet, Arnold & Son, and A Lange & Söhne. Maybe in another timeline, those are the top of the pyramid?

Either way you look at it, being able to sit down with someone who shares the passion for a particular name on a dial is something special and we at Horology Republic are excited we made the connection.

Now, if only Garrett can find JUST the right green-dialed watch to go with his blazer…perhaps this is it?

What a wonderful company with excellent people. I’m sure we’ll see them around Rochester in the coming year.

One thing that quickly becomes apparent when you dive into an avocation such as Horology is that the watches become the medium through which you meet the best people. People are what makes this interest what it is, and people are what keep us coming back.

One of the most impressive pieces we saw in Atlanta came from Schwarz Etienne Manufacture which had a wonderful lineup.

This particular model, the 1902 GMT, stuck out as a particularly beautiful piece. Fit and finish is superb, and we expect nothing less from a name like SE.

The design is stunning, and while our Nikon D850 captures the essence well, this must be experienced in person. The subtle coloration on the hands, the GMT functions within the movement, and the way it sits perfectly on the wrist all show that the people of Schwarz Etienne have a solid grasp of what matters to collectors. If you find yourself looking for a GMT that isn’t just another Oyster, this one needs to be on your list.

One of Zachary’s favorite brands has been toledanoandchan. Ever since learning of their existence, he’s been fascinated by the brutalist design. Many in the watch collecting world agreed that these look like nothing else and their rise in popularity is easy to understand when you handle one.

Being able to sit down with misterenthusiast and hear about the mindset and beliefs behind the design from one of the creators is a privilege. These watches have been covered a lot by the legacy media, but hearing the process and ideas straight from one of the people putting pen to paper is another experience. We even raved about a shared love of titanium, which is certainly one of the more slept-on metals in watchmaking.

The dazzle design, drawn straight from naval camouflage of yesteryear, is a wonderful addition to an already angled piece. How else do you bring more angles if not for that kind of etching and dial work? Add in the diamond flair and this is a watch that’s meant for black-tie affairs, a night out and about, or even the boardroom. You certainly won’t have a piece that everyone else has, and that’s kind of the point.

Conversations we have with our own members and guests often revolve around finding something else less discovered, and these certainly are candidates for owning something that’s truly unique.

To paraphrase Phil himself, why not create something that’s wholly your own and makes its own mark on the world? We couldn’t agree more.

Dropped by the boutique in Atlanta before we made an appearance at the VIP night at and we were graced with these lovely pieces.

For a brand of this stature, it felt wonderful to be offered the opportunity to discover more than simply what was in a display case. The quick-change system for both straps and buckles was astonishing. Under a minute and a watch has a completely different look.

The perpetual calendar was a favorite at only 8mm thick. Titanium also was a top choice since it brings such a lovely aesthetic that shines differently.

We had a perfect experience seeing many less-discovered pieces from the Maison. More photos to come from our weekend as it progresses.

While we are busy building the room for collectors, we like to still make time for coffee and new friends.

One of the ways in which we bring new people into our circles is with our coffee Wind Ups which usually take place in-between the months we host a more elevated event. Sometimes, sitting down and talking about your new watch obsession over a cup of java makes for a lively conversation and we feel this is just another way we can help to grow the community of watch lovers.

In this particular meetup from September 19th, we talked a lot about which brands are next on our list. We welcomed some new folks to our group, and we shared a look forward with returning members. Much was discussed, much was learned, and many stories were shared. Very exciting to see how new people are discovering us and joining us along our horological journey and we cannot wait to have more events like this!

With that in mind, we're happy to announce that we are finalizing many of the details relating to an upcoming Wind Down cocktail night for members-only. More information will be released soon, likely after we return from our trip to Atlanta on the 10th to support the , so make sure you're checking back to find out more.

I have numerous conversations about the intersection of watchmaking and innovation, both here on Instagram and at our gatherings. Collectors consistently pine for something to come along that shows creative thinking and unconventional ex*****on, packaged up in something that isn’t what you find on every wrist.

We like offset dials, jump hours, intricate calendar complications, and unique approaches to displaying what is essentially conveyed to us by every device we stare at constantly throughout our modern days. It’s no wonder, then, that something unusual tends to catch our eyes and makes us look longer than we otherwise would. It’s also not often that someone creates something for the collector that isn’t simply another timepiece.

Konstantin Chaykin is a name that, if you’re in the know, creates playful, colorful, and wonderful pieces that often toy with the concept of telling time. Again, he’s pushed the envelope even further by adding something to the catalog that offers something fun to look at during the board meeting or at your next Horology Republic event: a set of cufflinks that display the day of the week, powered by their own individual movements.

The calendar is one of watchmaking’s most practical complications. It complements the time display and helps us navigate the rhythm of everyday life, even in the age of digital devices. In a conventional watch, the movement controls the change of indication: at a prescribed moment, energy from the gear train is transmitted to the mechanism that advances the date or day of the week.

In the Master of Days cufflinks, the wearer takes the place of the watch movement. Fastening a cufflink on a shirt cuff activates the mechanism, advancing the pointer to the next position. The kinematic chain extends beyond the case: wearer and accessory form a unique symbiotic system.
