We've grown into a movement that continues to strengthen our community year after year.

Story 20: From VIP to I-Do

Live music has always had a way of bringing people together. For Matt and Liz, it helped write a love story. The two started as friends, volunteering together with AMA Triangle and crossing paths through Band Together, Liz as a volunteer and Matt as a sponsor, who would later join the board.

Then came 2018. Walk the Moon was headlining Band Together. Liz had a GA ticket. Matt had an extra VIP ticket. A little ticket trickery later, they found a way to spend the night together.

You could say they were victims of the night and bound to get together. That spark turned into an engagement in 2022 and a wedding in 2023, officiated by a familiar face from the Band Together family.

During their ceremony, Danny summed it up perfectly: “Music can be a connection point… But music is not only about storytelling. It can also be about story-making.”

Story 19: The Great Chocolate Search

“The B-52s’ rider included a request for a very specific exotic chocolate. One Band Together volunteer spent the day driving across the Triangle trying to find it before the show. Whole Foods in Chapel Hill finally came through. The rider also prohibited photography after the second song because the band’s mascara would begin to run under the stage lights. Producing a benefit concert often means solving problems no one could predict and sometimes that means crossing the Triangle in pursuit of chocolate.” -Danny Rosin

Story 18: A Million COVID Dollars

“In 2021, we found a way to hold a sold-out show with Khruangbin, Lee Fields & The Expressions and Big Daddy Kane at a time when our community needed support more than ever. More than $1 million went to the United Way COVID Recovery Fund, serving 92 nonprofit partners. As Khruangbin played, I looked across a crowd of people of different ages, races, backgrounds and beliefs, all completely absorbed in the same music. It was one of the greatest feelings of community I’ve ever experienced.”

Story 17: Last Band Standing

“About 10 years in, we realized that while Band Together was growing, we needed to do more to celebrate the incredible local musicians around us. Jim Graves and I created Last Band Standing, a true showcase with judges, audience voting and *most importantly* pay for every participating band. The winner received a cash prize and the chance to open our main event alongside nationally recognized artists. It became a way to invest in North Carolina music while keeping local talent at the heart of our mission.” -Danny Rosin

Story 16: The Gumball Machine

“At the 2025 Mighty Giveback, I decided to try my luck at the gumball machine at the Merch Booth. One spin turned into another… and somehow, I won six free spins in a row. Then came my final spin and the grand prize. Two VIP tickets to the 2026 Mighty Giveback! Safe to say, I’ll never walk past a gumball machine without trying my luck again.” -Holt Hobgood

Story 15: Ice Plunge with the Band

“At a private Delta Rae fundraiser, we realized we hadn’t planned a way to build on the crowd’s energy. So Matt Strickland and I announced ‘Dare to Care’: if the room raised $2,500, we would jump into the host’s freezing pool. Then Delta Rae drummer Mike McKee volunteered to join us, without anyone asking. The crowd reached the goal, the three of us took the icy plunge, and an improvised dare became more funding, more fun and another piece of Band Together folklore.” -Danny Rosin

What a MIGHTY night! 💛🎶 25 years of bringing people together through music and giving back, and this year's Mighty Giveback was one for the books!

To everyone who showed up, rocked out, volunteered, and helped make it happen, THANK YOU! We're still riding the high from an unforgettable night and feeling grateful for a community that continues to show us how coming together can create infinite good.

Here's to 25 years of music, community, and infinite good! 💛

As the dust settles, our hearts are still full from everything that happened Saturday night. ❤️

The Mighty Giveback wouldn't be possible without those who give their time, talent, and treasure. We want to take a moment to recognize our incredible volunteers.

From selling merch and serving food and drinks to setting up, tearing down, keeping things running smoothly, and bringing the good vibes all night long, our volunteers are truly the heartbeat of this event. We couldn't do what we do without you, and we're so grateful to have you in the Band Together family. 🎸🤘
