Story 04: Where It All Began

“I’ll never forget watching the Twin Towers come down with the friends who would become Band Together’s co-founders. Later, New York City firefighters joined us onstage in Raleigh and shared their firsthand stories from Ground Zero. We even brought them onto the ice during the national anthem at a Carolina Hurricanes game. I watched people cry as they felt the pain of strangers hundreds of miles away. We took something horrendously tragic and channeled it into positive action. Twenty-five years later, that spirit is still alive.” -Danny Rosin

Twenty-five years ago, Band Together was born from a community coming together after 9/11.

This Friday, we’re excited to sing along with the Marcus King Band at Red Hat Amphitheater for an incredible night of live music. Band Together will take a brief moment on stage to honor the first responders who continue to serve our community every day. 🚑 🚒 🚓 ❤️

A little Band Together history, straight from the inbox. 📬 This email was sent after the very first Mighty Giveback concert in 2001. The goal was to raise $20,000. The final tally? About $60,000.

There was crying, break-dancing, heavy New York accents, and one heck of a good time for a great cause. As we head into anniversary week, we’re taking a moment to look back at where it all started and the mission that’s been at the heart of Band Together from the very beginning. ❤️

Story 03: Kidznotes: A Reminder ❤️

“I was standing in the crowd watching the Kidznotes students perform when I noticed a father beside me crying. I asked if he was okay. He told me his tears were from pride. His son was performing in front of 5,000 people, and he was thinking about how his son was getting opportunities he never had and imagining a different future for him.

He had no idea I was a Band Together co-founder. We were just two people in the crowd sharing a really special moment. I was so choked up I couldn’t find the words, so I hugged him. I’ll never forget that reminder of why we do this work.” -Danny Rosin

Story 02: Walkie-Talkie Trouble 📻

“A few years ago, I was finally trusted with a walkie-talkie, and Mike Doyle was kind enough to go over the rules with me a couple of times. Apparently, I wasn’t paying close enough attention, because at the end of the night, I left mine in the U-Haul truck, which eventually made its way all the way to Ohio.
But I’m still reluctantly handed a tagged walkie-talkie every year.” -Emily Ballard
