🙌 Thank you to everyone who showed up and shared your voice at Broadway Junction!

Over the course of three days, we hosted two Pop-ups and one Community Workshop at different times, all designed to meet you where you are and make participation accessible.

Your feedback on the two conceptual plaza designs will directly shape the future of this space. This is what co-creation looks like!
Together, we are building a more vibrant and equitable public realm for East New York.

The project team is led by the NYC Economic Development Corporation | The Design team is led by and includes and for community engagement.

A new vision for Broadway Junction is taking shape!
The Broadway Junction Plaza Project will transform the public realm around the station into a welcoming gateway for commuters, workers, residents, and visitors. As an extension of the Callahan Kelly Playground, the plaza will help shape the identity of the neighborhood, reimagine a busy intersection, and support future jobs, housing, and services

Join us at an upcoming Community Workshop or pop up to learn more and share your ideas💡

🚇 Broadway Junction is one of Brooklyn’s major transit centers, sitting at the intersection of five subway lines, six bus routes, and the Long Island Rail Road. It is also the meeting point of six largely residential neighborhoods: Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brownsville, Bushwick, Cypress Hills, East New York, and Ocean Hill.

The Broadway Junction Plaza Project will transform the public realm around the Broadway Junction Station to create an attractive and welcoming gateway for the community, including commuters, workers, residents, and visitors. As an extension of the Callahan-Kelly Playground, the plaza will continue to shape an identity for the neighborhood, reimagine a busy intersection, and facilitate transit-oriented development to bring jobs, housing, and services to the area.

The project team is led by the NYC Economic Development Corporation NYCEDC. The Design team is led by Langan and includes Hargreaves Jones for design and Hive Public Space for community engagement.

And the best part? This project is shaped by YOU!🐝

The Bronx showed up with LOVE 💛 and closed out the season with us.

In Soundview, we gathered at Morrison Plaza to decorate hearts, share messages, and celebrate our final stop of this year’s LOVE Traveling Art series.
Families stopped by, and neighbors added their voices to a growing LOVE installation collecting 💛s across the city.

We had a great time spending time with the team at .ympj We love collaborating with local stewards of public spaces and getting the public excited about upcoming programming. Hope we get to collaborate again soon.

Soundview, thank you for closing out LOVE with us 💛

At Plaza de Las Americas, we filled the plaza with warmth, color, and LOVE. Hearts were decorated, messages were shared, and yes… we shared some cafecito to keep everyone warm.

We wrapped up Valentine’s Day at Gotham Park 💛

As the sun began to set, we kept the LOVE flowing, creating space for connection, reflection, and joy. Hearts were shared, stories were exchanged, and strangers once again became collaborators. From local skaters rolling through to lovely families stopping by, the energy was playful, welcoming, and full of heart.

It was our first time activating , and we loved learning from the incredible team about the work they are doing to bring life, creativity, and possibility to the space. Being in community like this is exactly why we do what we do.

We arrived with LOVE, and Corona Plaza met us with open hearts. 💛

Despite the cold, the plaza was alive, with street vendors filling the morning with rhythm, flavor, and energy. This is the heartbeat of Corona.

Our art station was buzzing with excitement as people of all ages came together to create and share love. Friends, family, and strangers became collaborators, adding colorful hearts that celebrated one another or their home countries. Elders shared wisdom, and many hearts were added to our installation while many more were made as Valentine’s Day giveaways!

Warm cafecito reminded us that love is also local ☕️ Thank you for keeping us cozy.

Brownsville showed up with heart 💛

At Osborne Plaza, we kicked off Year 2 of LOVE with color, creativity, and a ribbon cutting that felt like pure joy. Hearts were decorated, messages were shared, and the plaza filled up with connection. 💗

A special thank you to our friends at Brownsville Community Justice Center for hosting us and co creating this event alongside their youth. They brought incredible ideas, energy, and leadership and made the day even sweeter by leading the treats we shared with the community including cotton candy, popcorn and chocolate covered strawberries.

The ribbon cutting marked more than a milestone. It marked a beginning. A continued commitment to keeping Osborne Plaza active, welcoming, and rooted in community.
Brownsville, this LOVE season starts with you 💛

🌸 Blooming Futures 🌸 is more than a fence art installation. It’s a celebration of community voice, creativity, and co-creation.
This year, we worked alongside young artists, families, educators, and neighbors to transform Strauss Street into a space that reflects their vision for joy, belonging, and growth.

Participatory Art reminds us that public space is most powerful when the people who live, learn, and grow in it shape the process. From choosing the medium to imagery for the artwork itself, community members led the way. Every sketch, every color choice, every brushstroke became a piece of shared authorship. Their ideas blossomed into a vibrant design of flowers, bees, and butterflies dancing along a whimsical path.💛

Make sure to look for the smaller bees and butterflies created by young neighborhood artists. ➡️ Swipe to meet some of the proud creators and see their artwork in action.

✨ This artwork is part of a series of Active Design projects bringing Strauss Street to life! - - -

Two years of Bike the Block! 🎉🚴‍♀️
This season, we kept the wheels turning and the vibes bright — bringing bike safety, street games, and joyful memories to neighborhoods across NYC.
From learning to ride with confidence to painting, playing, and connecting with neighbors, every block became a place where safety and play rolled side by side. 💛
Thank you and all our community partners for helping us keep the streets fun and safe for everyone. 🐝
