We are deeply saddened to learn that the brilliant actor Michael Pennington passed away last week at the age of 82.

Michael first entered TFANA’s orbit through Peter Brook in 2010, performing in Peter’s breathtaking arrangement of Shakespeare’s sonnets, LOVE IS MY SIN. He later played the title role to great acclaim in KING LEAR, part of TFANA’s inaugural season at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, directed by Arin Arbus. He went on to memorialize that production in his book, KING LEAR IN BROOKLYN.

Michael was a masterful interpreter of Shakespeare’s language, a profoundly generous collaborator, and a lovely human being. We feel extraordinarily lucky to have worked with him and will carry his artistry and spirit with us.

Sending love to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him ❤️
