AN UPDATE FROM JAZMINE:
I recently sent a letter to current Loft 21 clients, and now a very cruel thing has happened. Social media posts are twisting the facts of my communication.
Here is my letter in its totality:
This is a letter I never imagined I would have to write, and one that comes with a heavy heart. After months of uncertainty, countless conversations, and every effort to find a path forward, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to suspend Loft 21’s events through August 31, 2027. I wish more than anything that I had different news to share.
As I have shared in previous communications, the July pipe burst and equipment malfunction caused extensive damage to our venue and set in motion circumstances far beyond our control. The resulting insurance process, restorations, reconstruction, and business interruption have created too many variables for me to responsibly provide a timeline for when Loft 21 can reopen. I never imagined the road ahead would be this difficult. I knew there was a lot of work to do, but I was hopeful. I was grateful we still had a building to save, a business worth fighting for, and a team of people ready to bring Loft 21 back to life.
I was raised to believe that hard work and leading with integrity would pay off. That if we moved quickly enough and fought for the resources we needed, we could overcome this disaster and get back to doing what we love most, celebrating life’s most meaningful moments with you. Unfortunately, despite our tireless efforts, the insurance process and ongoing delays have left us without a reliable timeline necessary to complete the construction and safely reopen our doors. As a small business owner, I do not believe it is fair to ask our clients to continue waiting. Your celebrations are too important, and you deserve the opportunity to make other plans with confidence.
What began as a devastating loss has become an overwhelming battle to save a business, protect our employees, and find a way forward for the families who trusted us with their celebrations. I have been fighting every single day to make things right. You depend on Loft 21 for your events, and my employees depend on Loft 21 to support their families. Behind Loft 21 is a family, a dedicated team, and one owner who has spent nearly 10 years giving everything she has to make this venue something special. We have watched circumstances beyond our control threaten not only the place we love, but the livelihoods connected to it.
I also recognize that behind every event on our calendar is another family, a family that has been planning, saving, dreaming, and looking forward to a celebration that cannot simply be replaced. Being trusted with those moments has always been something I considered both a privilege and a responsibility. This is why this decision is so incredibly painful. I know this situation has caused disappointment, frustration, uncertainty, and tremendous stress. I see that. I understand that.
Throughout this process, many of you have shown extraordinary kindness, patience, and compassion. Your messages of encouragement have meant more to me than you may ever know. You have reminded me why I fell in love with this business in the first place. Unfortunately, this crisis has also brought an enormous amount of emotional strain, including public criticism, personal attacks, and threats during an already devastating time. While I understand the frustration that comes with disrupted celebrations, I hope there can also be room for compassion toward the people working tirelessly to make things right.
The stress of these past months has taken a serious toll on my health, including a recent emergency gall bladder surgery. It has forced me to recognize something that, as a business owner who has always pushed through adversity, some things are too difficult to accept. I cannot continue to sacrifice my health and my family’s well-being while waiting indefinitely for answers that remain outside of my control. I am asking for something that costs nothing but means everything right now. A little compassion, a little grace, and the understanding that there are real people and families on both sides of the heartbreaking situation.
After meeting with my attorneys, public adjuster, construction team, and insurance representative, it has become clear that I still cannot responsibly promise a reopening date. The July pipe burst and resulting flood is a force majeure event as defined in Loft 21’s contracts. Your celebration also should not be left in limbo due to events that are beyond Loft 21’s control. You deserve the opportunity to move forward and plan your special day. As much as it breaks my heart to let these celebrations go, I would rather give you that opportunity now than continue asking you to wait for answers I simply cannot provide. Therefore, all Loft 21 events scheduled through August 31, 2027, are being canceled due to this force majeure event. We will continue to keep you updated on the progress per our contract, offer you another date of inventory for a rescheduled or future event, as Loft 21 has no obligation, discretion, or funds to return deposits. I realize this may not be the resolution you had hoped for. It is certainly not the one I had hoped to provide.
We remain hopeful that this will be on the right path soon. We can’t wait to reopen our doors, turn the lights back on, fill the dance floor, and once again be a part of the memories your families will cherish forever. Until then, know that I am still trying.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Jazmine Gonzalez
