Well, Dad got the headlights installed, wired up, and working! But check out what happens the second he turns them on! One of them has other plans!

Looks like it’s back to the drawing board for at least one headlight! Just when you think you’ve got it figured out….

My 85-year-old Dad has always been one of the most patient people I’ve ever known. I honestly can’t remember a time when I’ve seen him lose his cool or let things get to him. He’s always been relaxed, calm, and patient—even when I was a kid!

Here are a couple of great examples of his patience shining through in this video. It’s just the way he’s always been and I’ve always admired that about him.

A little carburetor trouble with the 1931 Ford roadster! When you’re building, restoring or maintaining old cars, there’s always something to fix. That’s all part of the journey!

Now that the Ducktail Run is over, Dad is back in the garage working on BOTH of his 1931 Fords — the 1931 Ford race car and the 1931 Ford roadster! At 85 years old, Dad never seems to run out of projects or passion for bringing these old cars back to life. There’s always something to build, something to improve, and another dream taking shape in the garage.

Even though Dad’s 1931 Ford race car wasn’t finished in time for the Ducktail Run, he decided to take it anyway and show it just as it was. And that’s exactly what he always says: If you can take it to a car show, even if it’s not finished, TAKE IT!

Because a car show isn’t just about showing off a finished car. It’s about sharing the journey, learning from others, and being surrounded by some of the most talented, creative, and ingenious car guys and gals you’ll ever meet.

You’d be amazed at the advice, knowledge, and even hands-on help you can receive from people who simply LOVE this hobby. It doesn’t matter if it’s their car or not. They want to help, share what they know, and keep this incredible hobby alive for the next generation.

Dad came away from the 2026 Ducktail Run with some great advice from some really talented people, and we want to say THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to stop, look, share ideas, and lend a little knowledge. We appreciate you more than you know!

So keep building, keep wrenching, keep learning, and most importantly, KEEP COMING TO THE DUCKTAIL RUN!

One of the sweetest perks of small-town living is having good friends like Howard and Renée Smith. ❤️ If Dad ever needs something from the auto parts store, Howard is always there to help. And Renée’s homemade cupcakes for our annual Ducktail Run staff after-party have become a tradition we treasure. It’s the little things, the kindness, and the people who make life just a little sweeter. Thank you both!

Our goal was to have this truck finished for the 2026 Ducktail Run. We did not get it done in time. However, the time we spent working on this 1950 truck was time well spent! It will definitely be at Ducktail in 2027!
