TONIGHT!

Join us for a classic Chicago-filled evening featuring a Gerrit Hatcher / Erez Dessel piano-sax duo and the energetic Larvavision, who plays blistering, high-octane sax-and-drum chaos. It’s members have played in the Chicago experimental scene for decades as members of groups like Pet Peeves, Taste Rubber, Tijuana Hercules, Hot Garbage, Skinchanger, Black Bear Combo, and more.

Hatcher and Dessel present a project rooted in the tradition but looking ahead. Their duo music includes free improvisation as well as compositions: original, repertory, lesser-known and traditional. Music at 8:30pm!

This Friday Filthe Analects, Dark Matter Residency Series, and Elastic present a listening party for ‘Dont Panic’, the highly anticipated album by 2026 Dark Matter Resident AQ & Uncle El. We’ll get started at 6pm with beats by Uncle El and AQ, and light food. Album playback begins at 7pm sharp! The chaos of our current climate is intentional: meant to provoke and disorient us all. Uncle EL and AQ enlist a heroes council of artists, including Psalm One, Open Mike Eagle, Video Dave, Inf Pwr, Iowa Rockwell, greenSLLIME, Binkey, Ari the Indigo, Nick Noise, Neko Suave, and Sam Thousand to deliver a graceful warning to the weary: “Dont Panic”. We’ll see you Friday!

Shake Shook Shaken is back TODAY at 1PM!

Shake Shook Shaken is a series led by Julie Meckler, and a dream of what a safe space could allow. A vision of a place for everybody to gather, look at each other, play and create in a non judgmental, trauma-informed way. It’s an invitation, a journey within and out, a surprise. Each workshop is unique. This month we’ll have Ava Brennan and Julie leading on the topic of RE-ORGAN-EYES.

How does resonance restructure our bodies? Resonance with other people, sounds, movements, ideas. The body is an instrument, filled with strings and synapses. Let’s weave together!

No prior dance or acting experience is necessary, just willingness to move and exhale. This workshop series is for anyone and everyone. Join us TODAY at 1pm!

After an absolutely beautiful trio performance on Thursday, Aine Nakamura is back to present a solo piece here on our stage tonight!

Aine Nakamura will present her work ‘Breath in this World’, brought in by our friends at Asian Improv aRts Midwest. The work is for spoken word, sung voice and body movement. “As I see the moon in the night’s darkness, which receives the light from the sun, the earth changing the light’s shape with the earth’s shadow, I think about light and darkness, lines and shapes, wounds and love, and humans’ eyes.”

Nakamura is a performer of voice and body, poet, and artist. She focuses on the potentialities of an injured voice and the listening and sensing bodies. She often writes words and considers shapes as if her throat is a membrane and each body part is a shape, phenomenon among worldly phenomena, in relations. Through her practice, while aiming to be a vessel, she understands about herself and pursues meanings of lines, seeing and connecting. Tonight at 8pm!!!

Join us this week as we welcome Aine Nakamura in from the Bay for two performances at Elastic Arts. First this evening for our Improvised Music Series, and Saturday with Asian Improv aRts Midwest. Tonight will be an evening of experimental voice and performance at IMS! Nakamura leads a deeply-embodied international collaboration with sound artists Jenny Graf (Copenhagen) and Bonnie Han Jones (Chicago). Janna Lee and Corey Lyons open with their dark, vast noise duo Obsequies. It will be incredibly special - join us!
