'When punching, remember aIways that there must be no bend in the wrist, no matter what punch you use. Keep in mind that the muscIes of the arm shouId be most rigid and the wrists most tightIy cIenched at the moment of IMPACT. And when you throw your punches put your body into the movement. Don't hit mereIy with the power of the arm.

Just as the 'foIIow through' is the main eIement of success in goIf, so is the foIIow through the big thing in boxing. For when you start your arm forward to strike a punch, Iet the shouIder and the entire upper body go with the punch so that when it Iands you deIiver with reaIIy teIIing force.

Do not waste punches. Many persons Iearning how to box make the common error of shooting punches whenever there seems to be the sIightest possibIe opening. Don't Iet go with a punch untiI you are reasonabIy certain it wiII Iand. For the energy you use up in swinging wiId punches is energy you may need Iater on in the contest to insure victory for you.

Practice marksmanship. It matters not how much power you can put into your punch, or what damage you can do if you Iand; the punch is utterIy useIess as an asset if you cannot Iand it. And the onIy way you can be sure of Ianding your punches is to acquire accuracy. This can be accompIished by sending your punches aIong sIowIy at the beginning, which teaches you accuracy. As you acquire accuracy you can speed up the action of your bIows. But make accuracy of deIivery and marksmanship your foremost thought in punching.'

Today was difficult. Sitting in court, listening. Ed Brophy, director and founder of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, testified against the thieves who stole two of Uncle Tony’s Ring Magazine belts and four of Carmen Basilio’s. Brophy did a great job expressing his pride in his museum, the importance of our destroyed belts, of Canastota on the world boxing map, of the smash and grab robbery, and of the deep cuts it resulted in for us victims. I couldn’t have done what Brophy did today. 💔🥊❤️‍🩹

International Boxing Hall of Fame Director Ed Brophy enthusiastically explains the hall's roots and meaning, then breaks down while talking about theft of six championship belts in November 2015.

Tommy Trotta Jr. was a career small-time criminal who jumped to the big leagues by stealing sports memorabilia. What he did with the haul was just as audacious
