We also wanted to share a quick update about the online portion of the program. We’ve decided to postpone the online screening for now, with plans to create a larger combined online event this summer alongside several upcoming screenings. We apologize to everyone who was waiting for it to launch.

After hosting two international in-person events, we realized we needed a little time to recharge before beginning promotion again.

GRRL HAUS has been entirely volunteer-run for the past 12 years, organized alongside our day jobs and supported through the dedication of our community. It’s truly a labor of love 💕

We’ll also be taking a short break over the next couple of weeks, so if email responses are delayed, we appreciate your patience and will get back to you as soon as we can.

Excerpts from a Filmmaker Spotlight interview with Sarah Lasley on the film CLIMATE CONTROL, with questions from .con.carney

Read the interview on our site and see the short at on May 6!

In this metafictional comedy about the climate crisis and generative AI, a director making a documentary about fossil fuel extraction is consistently subverted by an AI agent that wants to tell a generic love story.

Made in collaboration with Gen Z film students at Cal Poly Humboldt, the film looks at generational responses to the climate crisis through an absurdist lens, connecting the extraction of natural resources to the extraction of our human data and the extraction of our attention in this post-information era.

Important GRRL HAUS Update!
We are excited to share that our annual Best of Festival is moving to the spring. From now on, the fest will take place in April/May 🌸

Our FINAL deadline is now January 31, 2026. We will also be offering more awards for filmmakers and more opportunities to screen your films at our events and internationally.
We will be announcing our Jurors soon, along with additional special events happening during the festival.

Thanks to everyone who made our events so special ❤️ We expanded to Seattle with screenings at SIFF, held our first screening in Japan, and had an amazing summer showcase highlighting Boston-area filmmakers (which will now be an annual tradition) at the Brattle. We had DIY screenings with the awesome team at Oblomov, outdoor screenings with Mobile Kino and Lakeside Film Fest, a cozy event with Wander Berkshires, our grant-funded programs Experimental Echoes (NEFA) and Neurocinema (Mass Cultural Council), and online screenings.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making these events possible!

All films submitted in 2025 and through January 31, 2026 will be considered for our Spring 2026 festival. Notifications will be sent out by March 1.

We still have our shirts for sale, with all proceeds going to our awards for filmmakers being given at the fest. (Link in bio)
We will have some for sale at the Brattle tomorrow for our last screening of the year. Screening starts at 8pm, so come by a little before to grab a shirt!
