We’re saddened by the loss of Dolly Parton, a true icon whose music, humor, generosity, and determination inspired generations.

Her legacy includes so much more than music. Through songs like “9 to 5,” Dolly gave a voice to working women and brought conversations about workplace inequality, ambition, and standing up for yourself into the mainstream. What began as a movie then a song then a successful musical that has been performed by communities across the country—reminding us that women deserve respect, opportunity, and the ability to use their voices.

It is cliche to say that there is never anything that can really be said whenever someone dies, particularly a young person. While there is profound shock and sadness felt by everyone who knew Axel, there are so many wonderful things that can be said to honor this young man too.

Axel was a recent high school graduate who completed his last summer with KIDmunity with "Little Shop of Horrors," a few short weeks ago. He came back to us last summer as the "hot UPS guy" in Legally Blonde after a few year summers away. He came out of his shell, did things he didn't think he could (or wanted to), and made a lot of new friends and memories.

Axel was not only a delight to watch on stage, so focused and with a natural charm that stole attention in scenes, but he was a very kind, hardworking, and quietly hilarious person as well.

Today on Axel's 18th birthday, the entire Southeast Texas Stages Staff and KIDmunity volunteers sends their best to everyone who loved him (it was hard not to). Please share your favorite memories with us in the comments, as well as any pictures of him from this past summer to share with his family and friends.

You've seen Sean on-stage but you've also seen his work off-stage! Not just as a director or stage manager, but as a an intregal important part of each show on the set construction team!
Sean has been a volunteer with us since the 90's! We are incredibly lucky to have him!

Thank you United Way Of Mid & South Jefferson County for spotlighting some of our FAVORITE people to let them know just how much we appreciate all the value they bring to the theatre!

For the last two summers, Lamar University Department Of Theatre & Dance student Samantha Hatcher has designed costumes for our KIDmunity program, including "Frozen Jr" and "Little Shop of Horrors"!
