The Rylander Theatre

The Rylander Theatre A historic live performance theatre located in Downtown Americus, GA. The Rylander Theatre was built in 1921 by American businessman Walter Rylander.

It hosted the finest live entertainment and motion pictures before closing in 1951. Designed by C.K. Howell of New York, the Rylander was a visiual feast of ornate plaster work, beautiful stencil patterns, and painted murals. Closed for more than 40 years, and then restored and reopened in October 1999, the Rylander is nothing less than stunning and has once again reclaimed its titles as "The Fine

st Playhouse South of Atlanta." The Mission Statement of the Rylander:
The mission of the Rylander Theater is to provide the community and area visitors a theatre and meeting hall for dramatic and musical stage performances, motion pictures, and lectures, with its unique architecture, artistic legacy and social history to be interpreted through tours and other educational presentations.

We are excited to welcome the Americus High Class of 1976 for their 50th Reunion! Classmates arrived on the Americus Trolley and walked the Blue Carpet into our historic theatre. They were serenaded by Mr. Melvin Cody on trumpet and Mr. Vincent Hollis on saxophone as they entered. MCs Sheriff Eric Bryant, Tunisia Russell, and Tracy Stewart kicked off the event with Mayor Travis Rush reading a proclamation for the Class of 1976. Other entertainment included soloist Triyana Mathis, Whole Truth International Ministries Inc. Youth Adults Praise Dance Ministry and special guest Ventriloquist Willie Brown and Friends. Thank you for letting us be a part of your special night, Panthers!
