Emma van der Leest is a pioneer in biodesign. As one of the two Beacons of Dutch Design Week 2026, she will spotlight how biodesign has matured into a viable industry with enormous potential for change.

Miriam van der Lubbe, Creative Head of DDW, highlights why her perspectives and long-standing impact are vital right now:

A seven-metre golden bird perched on an egg has landed on Eindhoven’s Markt-the first sighting of .

Arriving well ahead of Dutch Design Week to mark the start of the national cultural season, Atelier Van Lieshout’s The Consultation Room of the Future is part monumental sculpture, part intimate space for visitors to step inside and get things off their chest.

Part of the studio’s Sanitas Futurum series, the work questions whether rapid technological innovation truly supports our mental well-being, or if simple human connection remains essential.

The installation offers an early preview of DDW26 and marks the first stop of a city-wide route of Grand Projects taking over Eindhoven this October.
