Tribute Night

Tribute Night These are the people who crafted the soundtracks of our lives. Occasionally, it is more of a theme than an artist.

Tribute Night is a long, winding train journey through the wonderful, eclectic landscape of popular music, and a celebration of its most important, influential, innovative and fun exponents. It’s a simple but winning formula: every three months, a different artist is featured and a varied bunch of local musicians play a varied bunch of songs by the featured artist. All are welcome to get involved, either by choosing a song or two to learn and play on the night or by just coming to listen and sing along. If you’ve been to one of these nights before, you’ll know that they can be silly amounts of fun. Now celebrating its 20th birthday, the Tribute Night formula has been applied to Leonard Cohen, Prince, David Bowie, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, Queen, Blondie, The Kinks, XTC, The Smiths & Morrissey, Kate Bush, Led Zeppelin, The Cure, The Rolling Stones, Madness, Fleetwood Mac, Depeche Mode, The Velvet Underground & Lou Reed, Elvis Costello, One Hit Wonders, Pink Floyd, Pulp, ABBA, Joni Mitchell, Black Sabbath, Pet Shop Boys, REM, Björk, Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, Bee Gees, The Who, Beck, T.Rex, Eurovision, Nirvana, Chic, Radiohead, George Michael & Wham!, Status Quo, Carole King, Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Billy Joel, James Bond Themes, Eagles, Madonna, Small Faces, Stevie Wonder, AC/DC, Elvis Presley, Beyoncé & Destiny’s Child, The Human League & Heaven 17, Elton John, Motown, Iron Maiden, U2, Dolly Parton, Tina Turner, Live Aid, Manic Street Preachers, Spice Girls, and Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel. The 2026 autumn edition sees us popping back to the 1990s to revisit arguably the most significant and influential British bands of the era, as chosen by our own Tribbers. Tribute Night: Blur – Tribbers’ Choice – Saturday 7 November 2026

20 Year Trib-rospective!

The Line Of Best Fit started doing this 'Where do I begin with...' series of articles as a way of introducing readers to an artist with an overwhelming back catalogue, and sometimes they cross paths with Tribute Night entries of yore. So I thought why not share them and remember yester-nights we spent together?

First up... Bee Gees! We had a fun night playing and listening to their surprisingly diverse range of songs, from the lushly orchestrated ballads of the late 60s, through the funky disco of the mid-70s, to the sophisti-pop of the 80s and 90s, plus, when they dipped out of favour themselves, all the hits they wrote for other artists, including Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Frankie Valli etc...

I might pop some more of these up if I remember, if I don't get distracted by almost anything, and if you can actually read this without subscribing.

Sad news indeed. I'm glad we paid tribute while she was still with us, and she featured again at the 20th Birthday Greatest Hits night, thanks to super-fan Sarah.

In a statement confirming her death, her team says she will be remembered as an "inspiration" and for her "wit, warmth, and kindness".

You know what? It's Blur night in vaguely twelve weeks! So let's start sharing the Blur love.

For fans of late era Blur, here's our Ryan throwing himself heartily into the Ivor Novello nominated 2023 single The Narcissist because why the flip not? It's gorgeous and those reunion albums are well worth a listen.

Why don't you record yourself playing your fave Blur song and let's bang it up on the socials.
