Eleven years ago, Tribute Night celebrated 60 Years Of Eurovision. This week sees the 70th edition of the ESC - with a year missed during the plague.

Here's one of the highlights of that night, a happy memory, Rebecca Johnson (née Lambert) performing Love Shine A Light [UK 1997], filmed by Jeff Lloyd, who claims this is the best ever winning song.

20th Birthday Tribbers' Choice!

On the day after local elections across England, Wales & Scotland, now seems like an apt moment to remind you that the Tribute Night 20th Birthday Tribbers' Choice vote is still very much a thing that is happening.

We have had a flurry of votes flying in since this was first announced three weeks ago with some interesting early results, but it is still very much all to play for as the vote runs until 31 July, so 12 weeks could turn everything on its head.

While I'm busy harvesting your Facebook posts for pics'n'vids of last Saturday's 2006 Trib Night, here's something to keep you briefly entertained.

We had a few last minute drop-outs so, with less than a week to go, I managed to persuade Raji to drop-in with a couple of emergency last minute songs. He didn't take much persuading. However, in doing so, I ended up being drafted in on piano to join him on the Muse song Starlight.

We didn't have an opportunity to rehearse together, so he recorded himself singing and playing guitar at home, sent the recording to me by WhatsApp to help me concoct a serviceable piano part, which I recorded playing over the top, and sent it back. We played it together for the first time on the night. A bit seat of the pants, but I think it works.

Ten years today since we lost the musical genius and artistic visionary Prince at the tender age of 57.

2016 was a dangerous year to be a cultural icon! In any other year, I would have suggested a special memorial Prince night reprise, but we were already doing just that for Bowie, setting a dangerous precedent.

Little did we know in January that before the year was out we would also be losing Trib-related people like Prince, Leonard Cohen and George Martin, and soon-to-be-Trib-related George Michael, Glenn Frey (Eagles) and Rick Parfitt (Status Quo), along with other significant pop folk such as Maurice White (Earth, Wind & Fire), Natalie Cole, Prince Buster, Pete Burns (Dead Or Alive), Phife Dawg (A Tribe Called Quest), two thirds of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, plus all of up-and-coming indie band Viola Beach and their manager. 😬

Tribute Night’s Greatest Hits Vol.2: 2016-2026
Saturday 1 August 2026

We are in the midst of a riotous year-long birthday celebration! Last night, we tripped back to the year when it all started, playing our favourite tunes of 2006, and the celebration continues apace with the next night.

Back in 2016, our 10th birthday special was a Greatest Hits of all the nights done up to that point. All the best Greatest Hits have an even better Volume 2, and that’s what we’re doing next, picking up where we left off and giving you the opportunity to revisit any artist or theme we’ve done in the past 10 years, as per the list in the comments.

The night will be organised slightly differently from usual. Damien and I will curate a night to represent the past ten years as comprehensively and evenly as possible.

Each participating act will perform ONE song each, notwithstanding the inevitability of some of you being drafted into other people’s ensembles!

What we would like you to do:

Email [email protected] to reserve a slot on the night by submitting 1st and 2nd choice songs by different artists from the last 10 years of Tribute Night. Do not submit TBCs to hold a slot; please submit actual song titles and artists. Slots will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis until the night is full.

Your choices may consist of songs that you did before and/or songs that you didn’t do first time round. If you have been looking for an opportunity to revisit a treasured Tribute Night memory by reprising a favourite performance, now is it. If you missed a previous night and long for the opportunity to correct this cruel twist of circumstance, now is it.

What we’ll do next:

When the night is full, we will look at all the submissions and contact you to let you know which of your choices we would like you to perform on the night, attempting to avoid multiple songs by the same artist.

It will be a bumper birthday night befitting the big occasion!

Since the little nudge below, we have had another flurry of nominations, and one or two of those have had the effect of elevating already nominated artists into the upper rankings, so it really is all to play for and your nomination could make all the difference to the final ballot paper!

And even if your nomination does not make it to the ballot paper, it will add to the wealth of ideas that we can nibble away at over the next ten years.
