Ruislip Classical Concerts

Ruislip Classical Concerts Monthly lunchtime classical music recitals performed in St Martin's Church Hall, Ruislip, by pianists Doors open from about 11.45am.

Interested attenders just turn up on the day - the Hall is large, with plenty of seats. There is no ticketing or entrance charge - though we do have a retiring collection to help us pay the pianists and to defray essential concert costs (mainly the hire of the Hall, piano tuning and programme printing). Entrance is through either of the two Lych gates and at that time of day there is free parking

just outside the Church on the Eastcote Road. The Ruislip lunchtime concert series has been running from the mid-1990s. However, concerts were suspended during the last two Covid years. Our series restarted on Wednesday 27 April 2022, when Valentin Schiedermair performed the opening recital of the new series. Each month (except in August and December) we offer a one-hour recital of popular classical piano music played by pianists of exceptional international standing. Our 2023 concert dates (Wednesdays at 12.15pm) and scheduled pianists are:

25 January: Ashley Fripp
22 February: Hao Zi Yoh
29 March: Viv McLean
26 April: Ben Schoeman
31 May: Daniel Lebhardt
28 June: Andrzej Wiercinski and Krzysztof Wiercinski
26 July: Viv McLean (a special concert to raise funds to replace the bass strings on the grand piano)
August - Summer Break (no concert)
27 September: Tommaso Carlini
25 October: Michal Szymanowski
29 November: Renata Konyicska
December - Christmas break

A tremendous lunchtime recital for us today by gifted Croatian pianist ZVJEZDAN VOJVODIC, who played Bach, Haydn and Liszt. A superb performance that was enriched by his amazing, interesting and informative introductions to each piece. Our audience was enthralled and especially commended his Liszt Two Legends and Rigoletto Paraphrase. Thank you so much, Zvjezdan. We welcome you back next year for a full Beethoven recital. Our next Ruislip recital will be played by Dmitrii Kalashnikov on Wednesday 24 June.

Our Ruislip audience was treated to a lovely, reflective programme performance by KYLE HUTCHINGS this sunny lunchtime. Kyle stepped in to play with only a few days notice because of an injury to our originally scheduled pianist. Thank you very much, Kyle. Our next recital is on Wednesday 20 May (Zvjezdan Vojvodic)

A superb performance this lunchtime by Daniel Lebhardt of Beethoven ('Tempest') and Brahms and Schubert 'Klavierstücke'. Much enjoyed by a large enthusiastic audience. Thank you so much, Daniel, and for your informative introduction to the Beethoven. Meanwhile, there was a hailstorm tempest outside ... Filip Michalak plays for us on 29 April.

Another magnificent piano recital by ASHLEY FRIPP this sunny lunchtime, including Liszt's dramatic Dante Sonata. His interesting introductions were much appreciated too. Thank you, Ashley. Next month (Wednesday 25 March) Daniel Lebhardt performs for us.

An extraordinary performance today by Serbian musicians MILOS (classical accordion) and ANJA (violin) MILIVOJEVIC. Despite the rain, a good-sized audience ventured out to hear this 'first' for Ruislip and to hear Milos explain and demonstrate his 178 button accordion. Thank you to both wonderful musicians. Our next concert is by Viv McLean (piano) on Wednesday 26 November at 12.15pm.

An impressive start to our Autumn concert series - with a superb performance by RENATA KONYICSKA who flew in from Budapest to play Chopin works and the Liszt Sonata. Enthusiastic applause greeted her at the end and resulted in Liszt's 'Dreaming' encore. Audience members queued up to chat with her afterwards. Well done, and thanks, Renata. Next month, Milos (classical accordion) and Anja (violin) Milivojevic perform our lunchtime concert on Wednesday 29 October.

A superb lunchtime recital today by Italian pianist SIMONE TAVONI, who played Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff - and then, after much applause, an improvised mazurka encore (Chopin style). Thank you very much, Simone, and good luck with your August Spanish festival. We now take a summer break at Ruislip and resume on 24 September (when Renata Konyicska plays Chopin and Liszt).

A distressing Ruislip lunch time concert today when, part of the way through Ashley Fripp 's Germanic programme (Bach, Beethoven, Brahms), an audience member collapsed and we abandoned the concert. Paramedics and an ambulance came and we understand the gentleman is now receiving treatment in hospital. Ashley gave a most informative and entertaining introduction to his programme and played the Bach impressively before disaster struck at the start of Beethoven. He will return to play another recital for us on 25 February 2026. Our next Ruislip concert will be given by Simone Tavoni on Wednesday 25 June at 12.15pm.

A powerful performance today at Ruislip by GIORDANO BUONDONNO of big works by Rachmaninoff and Mussorgsky. Unusually, an all-Russian programme - much appreciated by our monthly audience of 80 on this warm sunny day. Thank you, Giordano, for your impressive playing. Next, Ashley Fripp plays our lunchtime concert on Wedns 21 May and then Simone Tavoni on 25 June.
