The first ever Waggy Races took place at Castle Ward in March 2014. Since then we have staged events at some of N. Ireland's most beautiful places - Tollymore, Murlough Bay, Portstewart Strand, Portrush, Montalto Estate, Larchfield, Baronscourt Estate, Finnebrogue Woods and Mount Stewart. The standard of athletes ranges from competitive club runners to walkers, with everything in between. Four-legged competitors vary from Yorkshire terriers and Shih tsu's to Rottweilers and Weimeraners! The Waggy Races Portrush 5k was featured on the BBC One Show in October 2020. The 21st ‘Spirit of Waggy Races’ Award.

This year the coveted award, sponsored by KONG, went to the powerhouse pack of Chris Reid, Tania Helen & Eva the cocker spaniel.

Chris is the sorta boy we love to have at Waggy Races - he enters all our races and is a big bundle of energy from the moment he does - from providing tech advice, blazing a PR trail and promoting Waggy Races to anyone and everyone who will listen (including Boundary Brewing Running Club), to being a willing poster boy and bringing the energy on the day.

This year Chris and Tania got better value for money than most - as there is a baby on the way! We wish them all the best and perhaps we’ll see a v young competitor at Waggy Races next year.

The 21st Waggy Races at National Trust - Portstewart Strand was def a game of two halves - the weather Gods were on our side as the monsoon rain stopped after 12hours at exactly 12.59pm! We loved seeing you and all your pups on the beach today and had an absolute blast; and we hope you did too.

Huge thanks to everyone who participated, spectated, helped, supported, sponsored or simply provided moral support as we set up in the rain!

Results will come tomorrow. Few beers required first.
