As the FIFA World Cup 2026 gets underway tonight, the Budget Energy SuperCupNI is proud to celebrate an incredible milestone, with 26 former tournament graduates set to compete on football's biggest stage.

From Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Scott McTominay to Wataru Endō, Edson Álvarez and Martín Zubimendi, players who once showcased their talent at the Budget Energy SuperCupNI are now preparing to represent their countries at the world's biggest sporting event.

brings us back to 2002. The old Ballymoney Showgrounds hosted some titanic tussles over the years and the opening game in the Elite section in 2002 saw then Wales manager Mark Hughes run his eye over the latest crop of Welsh talent.

Unfortunately for the Welsh youngsters they were denied a deserved point against Paraguay with the South Americans scoring in the last minute to take all 3 points.

In just 50 days, 64 teams, 1,200+ players and some of the biggest names in world football, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Rangers, Celtic, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, will arrive in Northern Ireland for the 2026 Budget Energy SuperCupNI.

Taking place from 26–31 July, the tournament will see the next generation of football stars compete in more than 150 fixtures across Northern Ireland.

The countdown to another unforgettable week of world-class youth football is on.
