Join in the fun as our celebrated children's book illustrators Steven Lenton, Sophy Henn, Diane Ewen, and Ramsay Hassan sketch crazy drawing challenges set by you, the audience! Decide who the winner is with the clapometer and maybe take home one of the sketches created live at the event.

This is a perfect family event for all ages.

We've got exciting news!! We are thrilled to announce that Patrice Lawrence, recently named Children's Laureate 2026-2028, will be part of the Brighton Family Book Festival! She will be joining our extraordinary line up of authors, illustrators and speakers, who will be running a wide range of events and workshops all day on the 24th! All events are live on the website now!

It’s time for the delight of storytime. Snuggle up (or wiggle around) as we dive into the wonderful book worlds of our amazing authors, Jodie Lancet-Grant and Michael Catchpool, who will be reading their stories in this fun, interactive session.

This session is aimed at children aged 0-6.

Come and see how great picture books are created. Discover the best secrets of drawing with one of our favourite illustrators Diane Ewen.

Diane will be drawing with you and showing you how they create the characters we already love and creating new ones before your eyes. You will create your own fabulous drawings, and some lucky audience members will be going home with some of the author's originals.

SEND children are very welcome.

For children up to age 11.

Get ready to join in a writing workshop that will be fun, fast-paced and freeing!

Create something brand new or get help editing something you've already been working on. Join professional poet Erin James and Little Green Pig's friendly Story Mentors to help you get writing and express yourself whether through poetry, jokes, a short story or a speech! After this workshop there will be the opportunity for anyone who wants to to perform what they've written on stage at our Open Mic! Pens, paper and playful writing prompts provided.

For ages 7-11 years old.

Our Children's Open Mic is back!

Share your words on stage! Be brave, be bold and know that the audience is excited to hear what you have to say on the mic. Little Green Pig invites children of all ages to come and share their creative ideas with our friendly families audience. Whether poetry, short stories, jokes, speeches or something else- host Erin James will make sure the stage is a safe, fun space to share whatever you have to say. We can't wait to hear your words. The mic is open! People of all ages are welcome to come and be part of the audience for this event.

Bring your little creatives to the launch of our Children's Book Festival day and join us as we make and create wonderful things with beautiful book themes.

This activity is suitable for children aged 1-8 years.

For the first time ever, Brighton Book Festival is joining forces with independent bookshops The Book Nook and Afrori Books, Little Green Pig, Brighton Youth Centre (BYC) and the Brighton and Hove Library service to present a book festival dedicated to children, young people and families.

We've got craft, storytime, open mic, a graphic novel workshop, a draw-off competition and lots more to make this a festival for all ages!

So come along to Jubilee Library on Saturday, October 24th for some fun and excitement.

Entry is free, and free refreshments will be available.
