Some really beautiful photos here of the Moot Hall thanks to Jed Bourke

The name of this particular venue was talked about a lot at this year’s festival. For those of you still wondering, the word ‘moot’ has the traditional meaning of something open to discussion, debatable… something that is uncertain or arguable.

Who would you argue was your favourite act to appear on this year’s Moot Hall stage?

This weekend of stormy weather is providing the perfect excuse to reminisce and reflect on some of perhaps the lesser-talked-about parts of FolkEast.

Who was there to witness the b**r mat flipping competition? This delights both competitors and audience alike, with some suspense-filled action and entertainment. Did you know they soak the mats in b**r to help them stay together for the flip?

Three cheers for the winner (not pictured) - give us a wave 👋🏻 here so we can tag you!

With October now upon us, we look towards Friday 16th and the second in our Ninth Season of Blaxhall Sessions.

Both Peter Knight and John Spiers have made long lasting and significant contributions to the English folk scene via their work with Steeleye Span and Bellowhead respectively, and each in their own way has changed the perception of what traditional music can be, introducing it to much wider audiences. As members of the Gigspanner Big Band, they have expanded those boundaries ever further.

‘Folk A-Listers’ ‘Folk Royalty’ ‘Folk Icons’ are terms frequently applied to them, but the exquisite explorations of the liminal space that exists between traditional and classical music is what makes the music of Peter Knight and John Spiers so compelling and beguiling, ultimately rendering genres irrelevant. With their latest studio album, Both in a Tune, they have created a musical document that resonates with history, but also something to inspire future generations of musicians to engage with Britain’s folk music heritage.

Their collaboration began in 2016 at FolkEast ... here's to another ten years of sublime musicianship.

“An extraordinary collaboration between two musicians at the absolute top of their game. This is an adventure that takes in musical detours you’d be mad to ignore” Tradfolk

Thank you Jon Wilks - we loved it too!

One of my favourite musical moments of the summer: playing guitar with Emily Portman at FolkEast, both in the Songs of Martin Carthy band, and also on the Second Cousins stage. What a joy! Also, playing that gorgeous Gibson, owned by Martin Carthy

A date for your diaries!

🗓️ 18th September 2026 - doors 7pm

Kicking off the ninth season of Blaxhall Sessions - First Class Folk in a small but perfectly formed village hall - we look forward to welcoming NANCY KERR and JAMES FAGAN, one of the most beloved and enduring acts in British folk.

Twice Winners of “Best Duo” at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, they combine stunning vocals and stellar instrumentation on fiddle, guitar and bouzouki with Nancy’s insightful and poetic lyrics.

The couple have brought joy, inspiration and some memorably energetic arrangements to global audiences since their fortuitous meeting in 1995.

“Simply one of the finest gigs that this place has seen.” - Downend Folk & Roots

“Nancy is a songwriter steeped in the tradition, but casting it anew.” Songline

Tickets £16 via our website https://www.folkeast.co.uk/blaxhall-sessions

“Nearly there…” said the Shopping Centaur.

“Me? I like the rain!” said the Whale.

Only a few bits left to clear before the clouds open and we leave Sotterley Estate to rest and recuperate. As usual, the site has been left beautifully clean - thank you for your respect and consideration of our surroundings, as always but especially given this year’s extra precautions.

Meanwhile… the washing, packing up and stowing away continues, whilst preparations for 2027 begin!

A huge heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone involved in FolkEast 2026. You know who you are… crew, artists, stall holders, stewards and of course especially you wonderful festival goers.. as an independent festival, Folkeast simply wouldn’t exist without you!

Year after year we are blown away by the support and feedback from everyone. Please know that we have loved every second just as much as you and although we are enjoying a lot more rest now, we are so sad the weekend had to come to an end.

Please do share photos and videos you have of your favourite parts of your festival experience - comments via our Facebook posts are probably the best way, or via direct message. We will enjoy looking at them and sharing where we can.

Thank you again - much love from Becky, John and Team FolkEast 🙏🏻🧡
