Spooky season is just around the corner 👻

But jokes aside: unfortunately documenting real life can sometimes be scarier than fiction could ever be. Some of our films will send a shiver down your spine, but it’s important to look closely. Together we’ll face up to this! Get your tickets now 👉 https://www.dok-leipzig.de/programm/ueberblick

▪ “Glaube Sitte Heimat” by Fidel Sievering, Bennet Staack
Helpless rituals and the smell of time gone stale: an offbeat, honest portrait of a village that used to live from mining and where successful structural change seems unwilling to take hold.

▪ “How to Catch a Butterfly” by Kiriko Mechanicus
Racially motivated femicides. The director writes letters to the perpetrator in prison, blending projection with performance. A self-interrogation about the fetishisation of Asian women.

▪ “Kitzel” by Mona Keil
Two fluffy creatures play together affectionately, but their frolics soon turn uncomfortable, as cuddling becomes a free-for-all and boundaries are crossed. A film to get under the skin.

▪ “Letters from a Silenced Country” by Andrei Kutsila
A country in which any type of opposition is persecuted and violently put down. Accounts from Belarus tell of sacrifice, solidarity and the human cost of resistance.

▪ “Magic Atlas” by Xun Sun
Working for 10 years, hundreds of animators have created a whole vast empire of history, philosophy and satire. A fictional dictatorship of camera mosquitos and imprisoned sorcerers.

▪ “Melk” by Filip Anthonissen
Charel is the odd man out in the village community. In an attempt to gain recognition, he naively prowls through biblical history – and fails. Masterfully animated, absurd folk horror.

▪ “Terminal” by Alexandre Siqueira
A pirate’s son now coughing up blood returns to his mother after years of silence. A suitcase full of secrets, any number of tattoos. A film about unconditional love for an adult child

The 69th edition of DOK Leipzig has finally opened! Last night, we celebrated the start of the festival week with you at Schauspiel Leipzig. We were so delighted to see all our old friends and sooo many new faces – and we’ve got to be honest: we did not think the Osthalle at Hauptbahnhof would fit SO. MANY. OF. YOU!

💌 A big THANK YOU to our supporters for enabling this festival week to be what it is @‌stadtleipzig @‌smktsachsen @‌creative.eu @‌bundeskultur @‌mdmedienfoerderung @‌kulturstiftungfreistaatsachsen @‌ddr_verstehen and all our other partners and friends.

We were also particularly thrilled to see how you liked our opening film, “Guten Abend, du Schöne”. And what can we say: we’re deeply moved by all the positive feedback!

If you missed our opening film, “Guten Abend, du Schöne” last night at Schauspiel Leipzig or at the Osthalle, you’ll have another chance to see our opening film on Thursday and Sunday during the festival week.

📸Also many thanks to Sus | photographer for the beautiful pictures

You feel like diving into new dimensions? Then come visit DOK Neuland “Landslide”! The exhibition opens TODAY! 🫶🏻

DOK Neuland “Landslide” presents works from a landscape in motion and highlight the emotional zeitgeist: a fear which is defined by natural disasters and unnatural – and often violent – collapse.🌏💥

In film, we can reconstruct what was destroyed. In VR (virtual reality) and expansive media, we can live within it.🕶️ Allow yourself to be swept away into a story, into meaning, and maybe into action⁉️

Come find “Landslide”: six works at Kohlrabizirkus and one at Hauptbahnhof – entry is free! 🤯 Plus special events, all info on www.dok-leipzig.de

🕒 Open every day 11:00–19:00, until Sunday, 1 November.

The term ‘motherhood’ generally refers to the state of being a mother, as well as to the role, characteristics and social or biological experiences associated with being a mother. At least, that is what the dictionary says. 📖

🧑‍🍼 What motherhood might look like in practice, and which systems, structures, conditions, perspectives, thoughts and feelings might play a part in it is what we invite you to explore through the following and many more films in our programme 2026 👉 Link in Bio

🔺 “A Marriage Story” by Helena Třeštíková
Over three decades, Helena Třestíková observes the seemingly ordinary marriage of Ivana and Vaclav. Until we realize that “ordinary” can only exist for the casual observer.

🔺“Blossoming” by Kamila Serwicka
The women of the family suffer from the father’s alcoholism for years. When he leaves, sensitive questions surface, whilst space is created for a reawakening and a breakthrough long overdue.

🔺“Private Universe” by Helena Třeštíková
A perfectly normal family, captured on camera for 37 years. Through everyday life, the film traces the changes in Czech society – a life spent between Karel Gott and John Lennon.

🔺 “Son of a Bitch” by Erica Maradona, Tania Anaya, Otto Guerra, Sávio Leite
A road movie by foot which coasts on a vibe equal parts crude and tender. Together with Ismael, we set off on a journey whose destination is not where he expected it to be.

Come to our screenings and give all the mums the credit they deserve 👉 https://www.dok-leipzig.de/programm/ueberblick

PS. Dear mums, we love you ❤️
