Two tough but wonderful days full of action and dedicated to table tennis meets club culture have come to an end. Time for a huge thank you to all the helpers and supporters like OTB, TTVN and Andro - Get The Edge , plus a little recap in photos and videos for all those who couldn't be there.

On April 30th I went to Cine k Oldenburg to bring my beloved sport to unusual locations, namely a cinema, where we then held a small show match with players from Oldenburger TB, followed by free play at several tables. Sometimes with rackets and sometimes with vinyl in my hands, I accompanied the event before we then watched the movie Marty Supreme together afterwards. Then I went back to Hanover at night to rest for the next day.

On May 1st, there was plenty of space for all table tennis enthusiasts at 8 large tables and two smaller tables at Kulturhof and Kommunales Kino Hannover. Together with Tischtennis-Verband Niedersachsen e. V., there was a small exhibition match between national and 1st Bundesliga player Mia Griesel and Michael Orhan. Plus, five hours of freshest summer vibes from vinyl by Karbunck Lottinger and me.

In between and afterwards there was also the chance to watch the table tennis documentary Ping Pong Paradise and the movie Marty Supreme.

Parallel to my event, many outdoor activities took place on that day in many cities as part of the first nationwide street table tennis tournament, »Spin den Mai«, as well as, for example, with the Delfin TT-Gang in Linden with an enormous number of players.

Heute und morgen dreht sich alles um Tischtennis, Filmen auf der großen Leinwand und Musik von Vinyl.

Nachher geht es direkt los im wunderbaren Cine k Oldenburg mit Tischtennis im Kino, einem Showmatch zweier Nachwuchs-Asse vom OTB sowie einem knackigen Vinyl-Set von mir von 16 - 20 Uhr. Im Anschluss wird dann der TT-Blockbuster Marty Supreme laufen.

Morgen geht es direkt weiter, und zwar von 15 - 23 Uhr in meiner Hometown Hannover, genauer gesagt im Kommunales Kino Hannover, wo ich zusammen mit Karbunck Lottinger aus Hamburg passend zum Wetter heiße Tunes von Vinyl auflegen werde. Dabei und dazwischen könnt Ihr auf sehr vielen Tischen Ping Pong spielen. Es wird um 15.30 Uhr ein hochklassiges Showmatch u.a. von Mia Griesel (1. Bundesliga) unter freiem Himmel im Kulturhof geben geben, freies Spiel an großen und kleinen Tischen, Schläger und Bälle sind vor Ort verfügbar. Um 16.30 Uhr könnt Ihr im Kino dann die Doku Ping Pong Paradise schauen und um 20 Uhr gibt es dann zum Abschluss noch Marty Supreme mit Timothée Chalamet in der Hauptrolle. Tischtennis for free und die Kinoinhalte zum schmalen Preis.

Die Freunde von der Delfin TT-Gang veranstalten zeitgleich ein feines Doppelturnier am Pfarrlandplatz und kommen dann zum Kinoabend noch ins KoKi rübergeschwommen. 🐬 Zu erwähnen ist auch, dass am 1. Mai zum ersten Mal das bundesweite Outdoor-Event SPIN DEN MAI stattfindet, wozu auch meine Veranstaltung gehört. Bei diesem Outdoor-Event in 11 deutschen Städten kann man sich sogar für das Endturnier bei den TT-Finals in Erfurt qualifizieren.

Solch große Veranstaltungen sind schwer komplett allen zu stemmen, daher danke ich allen Beteiligten, Supportern und Sponsoren für ihre vielfältige Unterstützung als da wären mein langjähriger Partner Andro - Get The Edge, dem OTB, die Cumberlandsche sowie der Tischtennis-Verband Niedersachsen e. Last Saturday I played with my team TTS Borsum against the league leader SV Union Velbert II in the 3. Bundesliga Nord.

In my first single match I played against the best German U19-player (and multiple National Junior Champion) Noah Hersel (TTR 2267). I got off to a good start and was able to execute my tactical gameplay effectively, so that in the end I was able to win 3:0 (11:7 / 11:3 / 11:7).

My next single match was against one of the best players in the league, Michael Servaty (TTR 2303). I was able to beat him the last few times, so today, given my current situation and his very good performance (and tactics), he finally deserved to win this game. I mean, if I had been able to turn the first set around after a large deficit, it might have worked, but as it was, everything was decided. Congrats, Michi.

Still over 5 weeks without training and in pain, but the season is almost over, and then it's time for recovery and physiotherapy.

TWO NIGHTS - THE BIG PING PONG TAKE OVER

Anyone who knows me knows that I don't do things halfway at my events and that I always place great value on concept and strong implementation.

Of course, I watched the first trailer for Marty Supreme months ago, followed the secret announcements beforehand. For me, this highly-rated film is a must-see not only from a table tennis perspective, but also from a musical point of view, with Tyler, the character of Wally.

Since I've been combining table tennis and club culture at my events for years, this is the perfect opportunity. Although I would have loved to announce the event a bit earlier, before all the hype, it requires intensive planning.

And now what's actually happening: I'm very excited to start with the table tennis documentary Ping Pong Pradise to appeal to all the nerdy players before the blockbuster Marty Supreme airs at prime time. It takes place on April 30th in Oldenburg at Cine k Oldenburg and on May 1st at Kommunales Kino Hannover (15.00-20.00 Uhr DJ-sets on a big soundsystem, with friendly support by Cumberlandsche).

The program will be complemented by exhibition matches featuring top players, including myself at one point. There will be vinyl Hip Hop (and related) music playing at the turntables, and for anyone who enjoys a game, there will be plenty of table tennis tables, some of which will be supervised by coaches, so you can pick up a few tips as well.

I'm also particularly pleased to have my partner Andro - Get The Edge on board, who has supported me for many years with their reliable equipment and has players like Simon Gauzy and Sabine Winter in their squad. Also, a big thank you in advance to Tischtennis-Verband Niedersachsen e. V. and OTB for their help. In addition, there will be fantastic street table tennis events in Hanover during the day, e.g. by Delfin TT-Gang who will join in the evening to celebrate with us.

More details will be added in the comments soon. I'm really looking forward to it and I'm excited to see lots of table tennis enthusiasts at this event.

Last Sunday I played with my team TTS Borsum against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Unfortunately, due to the constant schedule, my shoulder has no time to recover, so I have had to go without training for weeks and go into matches with severe shoulder pain.

Despite that, I'm very satisfied with my performance and could have won both singles matches on the last match day, which unfortunately didn't quite work out and which annoyed me a little.

In the first match against Dickhardt, I let several set points slip away in the first set before finally winning the second. Otherwise, with a 2:0 lead, things might have turned out differently. In the end, I had to concede defeat 1:3.

In my second match I played against the multiple Hessian and Baden-Württemberg champion Schabacker, whom I was able to defeat 3:1.

This week I was featured in two newspaper articles. 🏓🗞️

The central questions revolved around the current movie Marty Supreme, which has a strong connection to table tennis.

Many people are now asking whether this movie can have any impact on this sport. Opinions are divided, but for me it's quite clear: absolutely.

Timothée Chalamet prepared intensively for this role for six years in order to portray an authentic player. He wouldn't have needed to do that if he'd wanted to create a short-lived hype. I think you really have to want it, and the result speaks for itself: numerous Oscar nominations and a marketing and promotion strategy completely played through with creative ideas. Nuff respect.

As I've been doing for many years with my Chop Chop Club (combining table tennis with club culture), unusual venues and extraordinary events are needed to bring this special sport to the wider publicity. Anyone can play a bit of table tennis, or call it ping pong. It brings people together, so it's a social sport. Nothing matters, not gender, age or origin. And now it's officially recognized as a health sport as well. It trains the brain in old age; it's no coincidence that there are such great institutions as Ping Pong Parkinson.

For years, more and more street table tennis courts have been popping up worldwide. Here in Hanover, I mostly collaborate with street table tennis community Delfin TT-Gang, guided by Maik and Najim, on various campaigns and events. And statistically proven figures confirm that there is a trend bringing street players into clubs. Simply continuing as in recent years in indoor sports will not drive the numbers up. So yes, I think this movie will bring more visibility and helps people like us being more motivated and push things forward with this beloved sport.

Well, I've gotten a bit sidetracked.

The first article from last Tuesday was released in hildesheimer-allgemeine.de and the other one in Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung / HAZ at your local newspaper dealer today.

And now it's off soon to the sports hall for me with my team TTS Borsum against Eintracht Frankfurt (3. Bundesliga Nord).

Last Saturday I was able to defeat the current number three of Switzerland, Mauro Schärrer (TTR 2334), again! This time with a 3:0 (11:5 / 11:9 / 17:15). He's also playing in the Swiss Table Tennis League (STTL).

In the match before I played against an increasingly strong and rapidly developing Yoan Velichkov (TTR 2327) who's the current number two in Bulgaria, also best junior player in his country and strongest player in our league. I was very satisfied with my performance, even though I should have played a bit more riskily in the decisive phases of the third and fourth sets (which annoyed me a lot afterwards). So in the end I narrowly lost 1:3 (11:8 / 5:11 / 9:11 / 8:11), which was absolutely deserved because Yoan played exceptionally well. Incidentally, I value him as a very respectful and fair player; I always enjoy playing against him immensely because we never give each other an inch. All the best to you next year in the 2nd Table Tennis Bundesliga.

Unfortunately, I was already playing with severe shoulder pain on Saturday, so on Sunday, during the away match, I couldn't do much except for the doubles and the beginning of the first singles match because the pain was too intense. Now it's a matter of hoping and waiting so that I'm pain-free again for the next match with my team TTS Borsum.
