It arrives every year. A lot of the women we talk to open it, see a wall of German and a number, and put it in a drawer. 👻
Meet the Renteninformation: your annual pension statement from Deutsche Rentenversicherung. You usually start receiving it at 27, once you have at least five years of contributions.
Three things to look for:
① The amounts are gross.
Allow for health and long-term care insurance contributions—and potentially income tax. The figure on the page isn’t your spending money.
② The forecast makes an assumption.
It assumes you’ll keep contributing at the average level of your last five calendar years. Going part-time or taking a career break can change your future pension.
③ Your recorded years matter.
Check your Versicherungsverlauf (insurance history). Child-raising periods and school or university periods aren’t added automatically. If yours are missing, ask to have them recorded.
Can’t find your statement? You can request another one online. Link in the comments.
