Wynn just turned 13 years old...“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WYNN!”! 🎂🥳❤️

This amazing young lady has been on quite a journey since her diagnosis with osteosarcoma in October 2024.

In her own words, “My life took a wild turn,” when what was initially thought to be a sports injury turned out to be a form of bone cancer with a tumour wrapped around her left pelvis. 💔

With great courage, she endured intense chemotherapy and a 35-hour hemipelvectomy surgery to remove her tumour and part of her pelvis.

After many months recovering and regaining mobility in hospital, she was able to return home last November to start life with her new mobility.

Wynn was SO determined to hit her goals that she conquered them ahead of schedule and was discharged earlier than expected! 🙌

She has proven time and time again that she can do anything she sets her mind to… and it’s incredibly inspiring to watch. 💪

Wynn is now back at school, and discovering a new love for para sports – she has tried wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, and is soon to try swimming.

GCC’ers, drop your best BIRTHDAY WISHES in the comments below and keep the celebrations going! 🧡

Today is International Childhood Cancer Day. 🌎

On this day, we stand in solidarity with those children currently fighting cancer, we celebrate the battles that have been won, and we remember those who have been taken far too soon.

It’s a day to raise awareness about the unique challenges of childhood cancer and highlight the need for research to find safer and more effective treatments to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve. ❤️

Because every year, over 1,700 Canadian children are diagnosed with cancer…

These kids should be living life, NOT fighting for it.

Our GCC ambassadors show us the true meaning of bravery and inspire us to keep pedaling when our legs grow weary and the hills start to feel like mountains. These kids won’t stop fighting, and neither will we.

Every member of our GCC movement is making their own personal impact to fight kids’ cancer and save little lives… and together, we’re UNSTOPPABLE. 🚴

As a community, we’ll keep riding and raising until we end childhood cancer... FOR GOOD. ✊

Today, we want to give a big SHOUTOUT to 11-year legacy rider Jarrod Russell! 🙌

Jarrod has ridden in every single GCC since our inaugural event in 2016. Over 11 years he has clocked 12,284km on his recumbent bike and raised an astounding $304,629 to fight kids’ cancer and save little lives!

He’s our #1 all-time fundraiser in Canada and the #3 fundraiser EVER in the history of GCC worldwide… WOW! 🤯

Jarrod himself was diagnosed with a grade 3 astrocytoma at just 4 years old, changing his life forever. He had a tumour on the front left side of his brain and endured intensive treatment at such a young age.

He shared, “I know how it feels to lose my hair, throw up regularly and watch other kids around me earn their wings. I lost a part of my childhood that I will never get back. That’s something I wouldn’t wish for any other kid to go through, and that is why I do what I do.” ✊

Now 49 years old, he lives with the ongoing effects of childhood cancer. He is partially paralysed on the right side of his body and is experiencing more falls with age due to balance issues.

But none of these challenges slow him down (clearly)… and he’s found great purpose in riding his bike.

With the unconditional love and support of his family, he rides for hope, for his dad who passed from cancer 2 years ago, for all the kids fighting, and for a future free from cancer.

His story is a testament to the impact one person can make, and it only continues to unfold – he is ready to take on Great Cycle Challenge 2026!

Jarrod, your compassion, courage, determination, and resilience are deeply inspiring. Thank you for all that you do. 🧡

Come on GCC'ers, let’s hear it for Jarrod!

5-year-legacy rider Mark has channeled his pain into purpose – he’s raised a whopping $23,927 to save little lives over his 5 years taking part in the challenge! 💪

Mark’s GCC journey began after he suffered the devastating loss of his daughter, Evelyn Hope, just days before her due date six years ago.

He turned to cycling for strength and healing, and when he discovered Great Cycle Challenge, it felt like the perfect way to find purpose amidst his grief.

Though Evelyn’s passing was not related to cancer, Mark is closely acquainted with the heartache of losing a child. 💔

Mark’s mom, Christine, was also diagnosed with melanoma in 2015 and very sadly lost her battle with the disease last July.

Christine loved to talk to everyone she met and tell them about her son cycling to raise money to fight kids’ cancer. She was his champion and is so deeply missed.

For Mark, loss and grief have fuelled his drive to take action and be part of the solution.

In his words, he rides “to support kids facing cancer, to give back to my community, and to honor both Evelyn and Mom.” 🧡

His dedication to kicking cancer’s butt has seen him surpass his mileage and fundraising goals year after year and establish a remarkable legacy in the challenge.

This year was his biggest yet - Mark rode 1,545km and raised $10,658 to end childhood cancer. Just amazing. 🙌

He rode along the Guelph-to-Goodrich (G2G) trail throughout the month, riding the 132km end-to-end multiple times and finishing off the month with an epic 260km ‘double double’ ride!

Mark, your dedication to kicking cancer’s butt is seriously impressive… you’re an inspiration! 🌟

We had to share this amazing photo of our ambassador Sam with his uncle Kyle and cousin Thomas (aka Wolverine). 🧡

Kyle has had an incredible maiden Great Cycle Challenge, dedicating his ride to his beloved nephew who is so bravely battling leukemia.

This proud uncle clocked an impressive 683km and raised $2,770 in Sam's honour. 👏

In his words, "What he and his family have had to go through over the last year makes my eyes well up just thinking about it... no matter how much you try to support your siblings and their family, at times like these it never feels enough." 😭

Even though he had only been out of a cast for a couple months, after breaking his leg earlier this year, Kyle was still determined to join the challenge and ride to kick cancer's butt... and that he did!

Kyle, we're so grateful that you've joined our GCC community. This feels like the start of an enduring legacy in the challenge. ✨

Michael’s 5th GCC was his biggest yet… he’s sitting in the #1 spot on our individual leaderboard, with a mind-blowing $66,091 raised to save little lives! 🤯

His 2025 riding and fundraising efforts have taken his all-time totals to 6,008km ridden and $144,632 (and counting) raised to kick cancer’s butt! 🤩

Michael pedals for the kids and parents who can’t, and he has built a stunning legacy in the challenge in their honour… just WOW.

This GCC legend told us that he initially signed up in 2021 after getting back into biking. He was a first-time father to a new daughter, Emma, and taking on the challenge just felt right.

For Michael, fatherhood really changed his priorities and lit a fire in him to help others.

Michael’s first-year goals were to ride 250km and raise $250, and MANY kilometres and dollars raised later, he told us, “This event has become such an ingrained part of my life… I cherish the ability to be a part of something bigger than life.” 🧡

In 2023, Michael and his wife welcomed their son Ethan and also navigated some health concerns with their daughter involving numerous hospital admissions.

Fortunately, Emma hasn’t had issues since, but that period was especially eye-opening when it came to the functioning of pediatric facilities and the incredible support and staff that exist.

As a man who clearly doesn’t do half measures, Michael has taken on some impressive rides during past challenges, but this year’s was his most ambitious yet.

During August, he spent 22 days cycling around Iceland on the Ring Road. He rode 1,450km with over 39,000 ft of elevation gain. 🚵‍♂️

Michael dealt with 108 kph winds, days of complete rain, subzero weather, a cracked rim and more. In his words, “I wanted to quit more than once, but I couldn’t.” 💪

When he shares his challenge and updates his supporters, it’s all about “we,” not “I.” He might be the one riding, but he sees it as a true collective effort.

Michael, your dedication to riding and rallying your network to support kids fighting cancer is just awe-inspiring… THANK YOU for all that you do. ❤️

YOUR CHALLENGE = DONE ✅🏅

What a month… you came, you rode, and you conquered. ✊

In honour of kids like Nori, Hendrix, Sam, Wynn, Liam, Dominque, as well as friends and loved ones who have been affected by the disease, you have truly kicked cancer’s butt!

We know it wasn’t always easy, but your dedication and perseverance were remarkable. 💪

Here’s a gold medal to celebrate a HUGE 2,045,207km ridden throughout August in our 10th Great Cycle Challenge - WOW!

The aching muscles are worth it, because your support will SAVE LITTLE LIVES across Canada. ❤️

Today is the first day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we will continue to advocate for critical research into better treatments and cures for these brave kids and their families.

P.S. Our site will stay open throughout September so you can collect any remaining donations and squeeze in any final kilometres towards your ride goal (in case of bad weather or a late start). 👀

It’s official… we’ve raised $6,500,000 to KICK CANCER’S BUTT! 🥳🙌

3-year-old Sam made this AMAZING sign and put on his “BEST VIBES EVER” t-shirt to celebrate our movement to end childhood cancer hitting this tremendous milestone!

Super Sam was diagnosed with high-risk B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in May 2024.

He has endured intensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments, and battled challenging side effects like infections and veno-occlusive disease.

Thankfully, this little fighter is now in the long-term maintenance phase of treatment. He and his family have been making the most of their summer together. ☀️

To our passionate and dedicated GCC community, THANK YOU so much for your incredible efforts for kids like Sam.

You have put your whole hearts and SO MUCH pedaling power into this year’s challenge. 🧡🚴

And even though our challenge month is coming to a close in mere hours, there’s still a little while to go before we reveal our final fundraising figure on Friday September 26.

So, let’s all celebrate this achievement alongside our buddy Sam, and get excited to see where we land for this year's challenge! 👀

We're officially in the home stretch of Great Cycle Challenge 2025...

Wynn has a special message to help keep you motivated in this final week:

“LET’S BRING IT HOME!” 💪

The amazing Wynn has been battling osteosarcoma since her diagnosis in October 2024.

She has endured intense chemotherapy, and a 35-hour hemipelvectomy surgery in January to remove both her tumour and part of her pelvis.

After many long months recovering in hospital, Wynn has now been discharged to continue her recovery at home.

Wynn's "In it to Wynn it", she's not giving up and neither are we!

As you ride over these final days, let's keep these brave kids in our hearts and minds as we turn those pedals and climb those hills...

Let's bring it home. ✊
