35th anniversary of the one that got away!

Pearl Jam were scheduled to play an all-ages show at Rivoli on October 22, 1991. The advance ticket price was just $8!

The show never happened. Pearl Jam cancelled the date to join the Smashing Pumpkins as support for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the Blood Sugar S*x Magik tour. All three bands played The Concert Hall in Toronto on October 29 and 30.

Pearl Jam were touring in support of their debut studio album, ‘Ten’. It was not an immediate success but it eventually produced three hit singles: “Alive”, “Even Flow” and “Jeremy”. It would be Pearl Jam’s most commercially successful album and a catalyst in the rise of alt-rock in the 90s.

What a show this would have been to have on the Rivoli stage. We’re still open to a make-up show. 😉

Thanks for a record weekend! 🙏

The pool hall will be closed tonight, Monday, October 19, while our crew takes a well-earned break and we restock.

Three days. Both floors packed. Thank you to everyone who joined us for food, drinks, pool and shows — you helped us set a new weekend record for sales at Rivoli!

Friday brought a sold-out night with Sam Casey & The Middle Children, MEAVE and Solid Body Contact.

Saturday kept things moving with Pepper’s Ghost Productions’ Obsession parody and the Kylie Minogue Dance Party.

Sunday featured Tablao Flamenco’s 10th anniversary, the debut of Sunday Spirit Open Mic, and the Sundown Sessions — plus Brian Blaine’s Blues Campfire upstairs.

To our guests, performers, promoters and the staff who made it all happen: thank you.

Here’s to more great nights on Queen St West. See you this week!
