The Carlu, located centrally in downtown Toronto at the corner of Yonge and College Streets, has quickly become the “it” place to host stylish and elegant events for corporate, social and cultural celebrations. A National Historic Site famed for its Art Moderne design, this meticulously restored 1931 event space includes the Round Room dining room (dubbed by the press as the chicest place in Canada to host a wedding) the Concert Hall Ballroom, the newly renovated Clipper Rooms for intimate dinners and luminating Sky Room making The Carlu perfect for any celebration from 10 to 1,600 people. The Carlu’s world class architecture is complimented by its unparalleled services which ensures the consistent delivery of unforgettable occasions each and every time.

On October 1, 2026, is proud to welcome the 25th annual Leacock Debate, bringing together some of Canada’s most engaging comedians, journalists and politicians for an evening of sharp arguments, unexpected perspectives and more.

As LiftED’s flagship fundraising event, the evening combines spirited debate with a specially prepared cocktail reception and dinner, all in support of Literacy and Leadership.

This year’s resolution: “Be it resolved; intelligence is overrated.”
