presents the 30th anniversary screening of STRAWBERRY FIELDS, which had its Canadian premiere at the first Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival in 1997!

Directed by Rea Tajiri and co-written by Kerri Sakamoto, STRAWBERRY FIELDS dives into the traumas of the Sansei generation. Through a brave exploration of the cynical post-‘60s era combined with bold flourishes from archival images, this narrative feature film is as daring today as it was when it first screened at the festival.

Innis Town Hall (free screening)

In this VR experience, artist Randall Okita’s THE BOOK OF DISTANCE explores new possibilities for deeply personal storytelling, leading us on an interactive pilgrimage through an emotional geography of immigration and family to recover what was lost.

In 1935, Yonezo Okita left his home in Hiroshima, Japan, for Canada. Then, war and racism changed everything. Three generations later, his grandson Randall Okita returns to tell this story. You can dive into THE BOOK OF DISTANCE yourself at .

Interweaving rarely seen news clippings, expert testimony, and her own astute narrative voice, Sanaz Sohrabi’s AN INCOMPLETE CALENDAR masterfully unpacks a complex history with gripping accessibility.

In a striking finale to her documentary essay trilogy, director Sohrabi continues her exploration of resource extraction across Iran and West Asia. Using a remarkable wealth of archival material seamlessly woven into a creative, scrapbook-style tapestry, the film centres on a rare and surprising artifact: the vinyl record of Rhymes and Songs for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), recorded by the Concert Choir of the Central University of Venezuela to commemorate OPEC’s 20th anniversary.

presents the 25th anniversary screening of Cyrus Sundar Singh’s FILM CLUB!

In this charming and deeply nostalgic 2001 documentary, Sundar Singh reunites his classmates to talk about their experiences growing up in a multicultural Toronto neighbourhood – the everyday racism and bullying and the struggles at home, and how the club gave them a sense of belonging that their country did not yet offer.

Now, 25 years after its release, we revisit the film and ask: how far have we as Canadian society come?

Sat, Nov 14 at 10AM
TIFF Lightbox Cinema 4

🎟️ Get tickets now at reelasian.com/film-club

*Director Cyrus Sundar Singh will be in attendance.
