TEACHERS, COACHES & THE ONES WE REMEMBER

VIKINGS, TAG YOUR TEACHER AND GO! 👇

We’ve spent a lot of time looking at our questionable 1992 hair, grad photos and hallway shenanigans. 😂

But today, we’re turning the yearbook around.

This one is for the teachers. ❤️🤍

The teachers who challenged us.
The coaches who believed in us.
The ones who made us laugh.
The ones who scared the living daylights out of us. 😂
The ones whose classrooms became safe places.
And the ones who probably deserve an apology now that we’re old enough to understand what they were dealing with.

So, Class of ’92 and fellow Voaden Vikings, we want to hear from you:

🏆 Who was the coach you’d still run through a wall for?
📚 Which class do you actually remember?
😂 Who had the BEST sayings, quirks or stories?
❤️ Who saw something in you before you saw it in yourself?
🏀 Were you on a team, in a club, band, drama, student council or another Voaden crew?
💭 And who had an impact on your life that you perhaps never got the chance to tell?

Because somewhere between the chalkboards, gym floors, shop classes, rehearsals, field trips, detentions and Friday afternoons, these people helped shape a whole generation of Vikings.

🤍 And there are faces in today’s photographs who are no longer with us. We remember them too. ❤️

I think that there is something pretty wonderful about getting to look back and see them here, doing what they did, in the prime of their teaching years. Their voices, lessons, jokes and influence are still tucked inside the people who walked through their classrooms.

So today, let’s give our teachers their flowers. 💐

WEDNESDAY REWIND:

THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 1992 🎓

Okay, Class of ’92… this one is YOURS. ❤️🤍

There You are!

The hair.
The glasses.
The mullets.
The shoulder pads.
The graduation bouquets.
And enough hairspray in these pages to compromise the ozone layer all over again. 😂

Arthur Voaden’s graduating class of 1992… and then some!

Thirty-four years ago, these halls were full of people who had absolutely no idea where life was about to take them.

Some stayed close to home.
Some moved across the country or across the world.
Some built careers, businesses and families.
Some became parents and grandparents.
Some took the scenic route.
Some changed direction entirely.

And somewhere along the way, 1992 became a lifetime ago and five minutes ago at exactly the same time.

So today, we’re taking attendance. 📣

📸YEARBOOK INTERMISSION:

THE CANDIDS

Okay Vikings, before we head into the Grade 12 Class of 1992, we’re taking a little detour from the perfectly posed yearbook portraits…

Because THIS is where the fun is ... 😂

The candids.

The hallways.
The Caf.
The classrooms.
The library.
School dances.
Lunch tables.
Random moments with absolutely no explanation.
And apparently the occasional photographer catching you when you were definitely not prepared. 📸

No filters.
No retakes.
No checking the picture immediately afterward.

Just someone roaming Arthur Voaden with a camera, taking one shot and hoping for the best. 😂

And somehow, 34 years later, these might be the photographs that tell the story best.

So tonight we’re cracking open Lightning Strikes 1992 and wandering the halls for a while.

TUESDAY THROWBACK:
👉GRADE ELEVEN — 1992 🎓

Okay, my fellow fifty-year-old -ish Grade 11 Vikings—this one is ours! ❤️🤍

I believe this is also my stop…

Because 1992 was also the year I sadly, left Arthur Voaden and defected to the other team.

😂 A questionable teenage decision? A plot twist?
We’ll let history decide.

But we all know the rule:

Once a Viking, always a Viking!

And what a year 1992 was!

Our soundtrack included End of the Road, Jump Around, Under the Bridge, November Rain, Rhythm Is a Dancer, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Baby Got Back and our Canadian road-trip anthem, Life Is a Highway.

We watched Wayne’s World, The Bodyguard, Aladdin, Batman Returns and A League of Their Own. We had MuchMusic, mixtapes, landline telephones, handwritten notes folded into complicated little shapes—and cameras that made us wait a week to discover whether anyone’s eyes were open.

We wore high-waisted jeans, bodysuits, oversized sweatshirts, flannel, Doc Martens, scrunchies and enough hairspray to provide structural support.

We were sixteen or seventeen, completely convinced we knew everything.

And now—somehow—we’re somewhere around fifty. ❤️

❤️GRADE 10s… YOU’RE UP! 🤍

Yesterday we found the Grade 9s. Today we’re moving up a floor. 😂

GRADE 10 AT VOADEN.

By Grade 10, we weren’t the new kids anymore.

We knew where everything was.
We knew which teachers we wanted.
We knew where our friends would be at lunch.
We knew the caf was arguably more important than several actual classes. 😂

And … judging by these yearbook pictures, some of us had also made some VERY definite decisions about our hair. I am pretty sure I had stocks in Aqua Net or Aussie Scrunch Spray!

So … let’s do another
VIKING ROLL CALL.

Seriously. Bring them.

Pass them around.
Find your old friends.
Get people to sign them again. Write something ridiculous in somebody’s yearbook 30-something years later.

We’re also going to have our big Living Yearbook at Retro Rewind for everyone to sign and leave a little piece of themselves behind for the centenary.
