Miigis is a powerful contemporary dance work inspired by the epic journey of the Anishinaabe along ancient water routes from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes. Choreographed and directed by Sandra Laronde in collaboration with the performers, this performance brings to life themes of origin, memory, spirit beings, and the Seven Fire Prophecies—carried forward through striking movement, music, and visual design.

On October 24th at 7:30pm,
The Capitol Theatre presents Blackout Arts Society's production of Sanaz Toossi's award-winning play, English.

The Pulitzer committee described English as “a quietly powerful play about four Iranian adults preparing for an English-language exam in a storefront school near Tehran, where family separations and travel restrictions drive them to learn a new language that may alter their identities and also represent a new life.”

The quote from Sanaz Toossi is from a 2022 NYT article by Alexis Soloski.
