We can officially say that Ribfest was the hottest event in town. We want to acknowledge our volunteers that braved the heat, many having exhaustion and a bit of heat stroke, but they showed up every day. We have the most amazing volunteers, some have been with us from day one.
Our volunteer coordinator makes it all work, Laurie is the person that makes certain that we have people to cover every segment of this massive project. Including people to supervise and operate the bouncy castles, people to stand out by the rear gates to save the very limited parking for the bands. We have a very dedicated group that stand in the direct sun every year to check bags to prevent outside alcohol from entering our beer garden and putting our license at risk.
We have people to make sure the grounds are clean and that trash is handled as needed. People who haul around 1,000s of pounds of ice to keep your drinks cold. People to constantly roam around keeping an eye out as security to keep you and your family safe.
Ticket sellers, token sellers, bartenders, and someone to ensure the bands are here and on time. We cannot forget people who have to count, double count and verify every dollar or coin that comes in, since this money belongs to the public and we are responsible to see that it is protected and used to help the public.
We are truly blessed with the greatest volunteers and we know it. People sign up to spend hours in the sun to make sure this event is a success and in exchange we give them a shirt, fill their bellies and offer a huge thank you. We know we have the greatest volunteers and for that we thank you.
