📍SAVE THIS FOR YOUR MALAYSIA BUCKET LIST

Seven days. Three cities. And far too many dishes to choose a favourite. 🇲🇾

Looking back at our Taste of Malaysia Foodie Tour 2026, these are some of the dishes I’m still thinking about.

But the food was only part of the journey. Every dish came with a person, a place or a story.

Which one would you try first?

Penang through my lens. Both constant yet ever-changing.

Returning here always brings up a familiar feeling. The island grows and evolves, yet the essence remains untouched. Traditions are still fiercely protected, street hawkers still fire up their woks over open flames, and the rhythm of daily life carries the warm comfort of childhood memories.

It’s both completely different and exactly the same( just like me!) a living piece of heritage that continues to feel like home.

This is the heart of what we share on our Taste of Malaysia Foodie Tour by connecting with the soul of the island and the people who bring it to life.

💬 What’s one dish or place that instantly brings back your favorite childhood memories? Let me know below! 👇

I thought I was showing them Malaysia.

I didn’t expect Malaysia to teach me so much.

I grew up in Malaysia, migrated to Australia and built a new life there.

For many years, Malaysia was simply the place I came from.

But when I returned to host my own Malaysian foodie tour, I came home with different eyes.

I wasn’t a tourist anymore.

I was introducing people to a place that had shaped me.

And suddenly, the things I had taken for granted became meaningful again.

The hawker food. (The same uncle behind the flaming wok)
The stories behind the dishes. ( Winnie’s story how she owned a Michelin bib Gourmand Nyonya restaurant when her background was a pastry chef)
The warmth of the people ( even the drivers turned photographer)
The incredible mix of cultures. ( when you have Malay, Chinese and Indian food all in a day)
The simple act of sitting around a table and sharing a meal.

I realised that food can carry so much.

Memory.
Culture.
Identity.
Belonging.

And perhaps that’s what happens when you migrate.

You don’t leave one home behind and simply create another.

You carry pieces of both with you.

Hosting this tour reminded me that GlobalFoodSocial isn’t really about taking people to eat.

It’s about creating moments where people feel connected to a place, to its people, to its culture and sometimes even to a part of themselves.

So yes, I came home to show people Malaysia.

But in the process, I rediscovered a little more of my own story.

And that might be the most meaningful part of this journey so far.

If I had to sum up my entrepreneurial journey in one sentence, it’s the ultimate Hero’s Journey.

Starting out over 10 years ago, I thought reading books like The E-Myth meant I could intellectualize my way around the classic rookie mistakes. Guess what? I made every single one of them anyway!

But here’s the biggest lesson: Knowledge is great, but true growth only comes through experience.

Entrepreneurship forces you into the unknown. It teaches you resilience, when to hold on, when to let go, and who to trust.

The real reward isn’t just reaching the finish line or hitting the goal—it’s who you become along the way.

What’s been the biggest lesson your journey has taught you so far? 👇

Nyonya Demo & Lunch at Michelin Bid Gourmand Winn's Cafe moments beautifully captured by Chin Wah Teo.

We’ve learned how to make Nasi Ulam and Kacang Botol Kerabu and the ingredients that went into the recipes.

Nyonya cuisine is an integral part of Penang heritage and complex to make. Winn’s Cafe has preserved this tradition by presenting the cuisine beautifully and it’s a truly a unique dining experience in Penang.
