Στο πλαίσιο των εκδηλώσεων για την 85η επέτειο της Μάχης της Κρήτης πραγματοποιήθηκε το Σάββατο 23 Μαΐου 2026 μεγάλη εκδήλωση στο Κρητικό Χωριό της Μελβούρνης, με έντονη παρουσία της ομογένειας και ιδιαίτερα της νεολαίας.

Μεταξύ των ομιλητών, εκτός από τον πρόεδρο της Παγκρητίου Ένωσης Μελβούρνης, Γιάννη Νικολακάκη, ήταν και ο Απτχος Κωνσταντίνος Μπούζος, Επιτελάρχης ΓΕΕΘΑ, ο οποίος βρέθηκε στην Αυστραλία μαζί με την αποστολή του, παρά τις δύσκολες συνθήκες που επικρατούν διεθνώς, όπως ο ίδιος ανέφερε κατά την ομιλία του.

Ξεχωριστή στιγμή της βραδιάς αποτέλεσε η παρουσία του Μανώλη Κονταρού, ο οποίος μαζί με τους μουσικούς του ταξίδεψε από την Ελλάδα και χάρισε ένα δυναμικό κρητικό γλέντι που κράτησε μέχρι τις πρώτες πρωινές ώρες.

Ιδιαίτερα αισθητή ήταν η μεγάλη προσέλευση νέων ανθρώπων, στοιχείο που ανέδειξε τη διαχρονική σύνδεση της νέας γενιάς με την κρητική παράδοση, την ιστορία και την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά.

As part of the commemorative events marking the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete, a major event was held at the Cretan Village in Melbourne on Saturday 23 May 2026, attracting strong support from the Greek community, particularly younger generations.

Among the speakers, alongside the President of the Pancretan Association of Melbourne, Giannis Nikolakakis, was Lieutenant General Konstantinos Bouzos, Chief of Staff of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, who travelled to Australia with his delegation despite the difficult international conditions currently facing the world, as he noted during his address.

A highlight of the evening was the appearance of Manolis Kontaros, who travelled from Greece with his musicians and entertained attendees with a vibrant Cretan celebration that continued into the early hours of the morning.

Particularly noticeable was the large attendance of young people, highlighting the enduring connection of the younger generation with Cretan tradition, history, and cultural heritage.
