Dear Folk Friends,
Unfortunately, Chris Wheeler is sick, so rather than do a concert with her lovely voice and whistles, we have decided to postpone the event until she is totally recovered.

So now the folk club with the marvellous Wombats Crossing will be on Wednesday, the 1st of July, at Jack Duggan's Irish Pub. So make a note to change it in your diary, and I will see you there!

Sincere apologies,
Yours in music
Jenny Watson

The Bathurst Folk Club is pleased to present Wombats Crossing. This wonderful concert will be on Wednesday the 17th of June at Jack Duggans Pub 7.30pm. $20 rec. I do hope you can make it. I for one are really looking forward to it. Folk music at its best.

Wombats Crossing
Wombats Crossing are a part of the modern chamber folk movement. A trio of accomplished soloists, they combine to weave new tapestries from varied musical traditions across the ages and from around the world. Beautifully atmospheric one moment and driving the next, they combine the tight harmonic blending of three strong voices with virtuosic instrumental playing.

The Wombats were brought together in 2012 by Christine Wheeler, a leading light in Australia's traditional music scene and choir master, woodwind player, guitarist and singer. She is joined by Rebecca Daniel and Leigh Birkett. Rebecca is a virtuosic violinist, singer, orchestra leader and composer whose credits range from the Australian Chamber Orchestra to sharing the stage with INXS and Barbra Streisand. Leigh has been a touring accompanist on the festival circuit for many years, favouring the rich altered tunings of the Celtic guitar style that are so suited to the melodic and rich harmonic nature of modern traditional music.

Hey folks, our good friends at Music NSW have this treat in store for you, it's in Bathurst, but it is always nice to go and visit our eastern neigbours.

What: An In-Person MusicNSW New Wave (formally Sound Advice) session
Where: BMEC, Bathurst
When: Saturday 27th of June
Time: 10am - 1pm
Who: Megan and Chelsea (Great Aunt), MusicNSW programs manager, Caitlin McGregor/CP (also a musician and band manager)

They’re covering all things recording and releasing, its open for anyone to come along, but there is a focus on women and gender diverse folks. It will be a panel discussion diving into building confidence as an artist and finding and building community, followed by a session with CP on curating release plans and other strategies to help you prepare for your next release.
Great Aunt are then running a masterclass covering:
How to pitch effectively
Clear pricing structures when pitching for gigs & festivals
How to navigate and push back against gender bias practically, not just in theory
You can bring forward a track you’re working on, have recorded or are about to release, and receive advice from the panel on how to get your music out into the world.

For more info and to register, check out the website - https://www.musicnsw.com/events/drop-it-like-you-mean-it

They’re also running an online session on recording and releasing more broadly on the Wednesday night, 24th June from 6-8pmwith Lola Scott (musician) and Scott Horscroft (producer, engineer) which will have some great takeaways and tools in there too.

The Bathurst Folk Club is very excited to tell you that The Cicada Club have accepted the offer to perform at Folk Club on 20th May at 7.30pm. The Cicada Club is a 4-piece jug band from Central West NSW. They play covers and originals in the style of ragtime, swing and hokum blues. Hot from their success at St Albans Folk Festival.

Entry by donation $20 rec especially as they are a 4-piece ensemble. Ken Smith I can vouch for as I have known him for years, an excellent entertainer, a bit on the quirky side and the others I am sure are excellent too. You are going to enjoy this. It should be a lot of fun. So mark it in your diary now so you don't miss out.

Floor spots always welcome if you care to strut your stuff. Let me know in advance, or on the night. If you want to phone my number, it is 0413673317

See you at Jack Duggans Pub in Bathurst on the 20th!
Regards Jenny
