Smiles all around at this past weekends JHB Coffee Festival 🙂

The arranged a banger this year! 2026 was by far the best of the best 💥☕☕

KEY HIGHLIGHTS :

- The sun was out in JHB ☀️ Isn’t it supposed to be winter? 🤔 We won’t complain!
- We hosted our first cupping at the Festival. It was so good we decided to host a second on Sunday!
- Our Decaf Cola Fizz was a hit as usual. We only sold it on Satuday and Sunday and had to accept a lot of disappointed Cola Fizz fans on Friday - askies!
- The yearly JHB festival is starting to feel like camp. We’ve made some friends that we only see once a year at this event 🥹🫶
- Our green always get a lot of “”Oooohs”” and “”Aaaaahs”” and we still can’t get over it 🟢
- We sold bags on bags on bags this weekend. And cups on cups on cups. And to see the joy on all of your faces when admiring the bags or taking a sip on your coffee - it reassures us that we are doing it right!

Thanks again to J and C from for putting on a great show, to for being a great host, all our co roasters and coffee vendors / suppliers for pushing us and the industry to be better and last but not least to all of you. You could have been anywhere in the world but you chose to STIEK UIT at the festival and for that, we are thankful. Till next year!

Where did you enjoy your cups of Cedar this last weekend? ☕

At the expo? On a mountain somewhere? Next to the ocean? Around a breakfast table with your friends?

One of our favourite things is seeing where the coffee ends up once it leaves the roastery. Whether it’s different places or different setups, it’s still the same good cup 🙂

COSTA RICA NATURAL LA ISLA SL28 🇨🇷

We’re pretty sure this Untitled 75 through a lot of you for a curve ball! This is our 3rd and final ot from , founded and run by the Jiménez & Padilla family.

The previous two lots were different varietals and both honey processed, each having a “”classic”” profile - sweet balanced and tasty on milk!

This one is an SL28 varietal and a natural process. This varietal is often grown and cultivated in Africa, specifically Kenya, so don’t be suprised to find some familiar Kenyan notes in this coffee 😋 We found a great balance across all brewing methods on this one so it’ll tick your box irrespective of how you like to have your coffee.

We’ll be at the Jo’burg Coffee Festival this weekend with new coffees, a few familiar favourites, and yes… the cola fizz is making another appearance (on Saturday and Sunday).

If you’ve been meaning to taste Cedar, ask questions, chat coffee, or just come say howzit… this is your chance. We’ll be the ones behind the stand talking flavour notes, brewing coffees, and pretending we’re not tired by day three 😌

COLOMBIA LAS VERANERAS NATURAL 🇨🇴

A second Special release in two days! Untitled 74 friends 🙌🏽 Again, we got some good feedback on this one.

“It’s amazing, tastes of chocolate coated blueberries! Wish I grabbed a second bag” Well there is more where the Untitled came from (+ a refined roast which is tasting even BETTER 🤩)

This is another banger have brought in from - a Natural Processed Sudan Rume varietal 🌱 Rodrigo is well known for his fermentation experiments but on this lot, a 36 hour aerobic fermentation allows the varietal to shine. Sudan Rumss are well know for their flavour clarity and tropical fruit profile and this coffee is no exception.

Our young friend Keagan from our partners used this coffee in the recent .coffee Western Cape Regional Barista Championships and came 4th on his first time competing! You can taste the coffee from him at their cafe in Stellenbosch or stiek uit to our Albert Road store or Hatch at next week to taste directly from us ☕

Colombia Zarza Anaerobic Natural 🇨🇴

Daarsy, Untitled 73 is out and we are very chuffed to get feedback on this from one of our day ones! 💪🏽

“”Getting very strong Turkish delight vibes when having this with milk. Big fan.

On filter I was getting an aroma that reminded me of a dark berry sweet of some kind. The actual cup didn’t have that very strongly and my overall impression was Wilson’s Cola Toffee sweets.””

This is pretty spot on. 73 sees the return of another lot from from .oficial 🤩 Previously we’ve had x2 Pacamara varietalivar lots but this lot is a Wush Wush varietal which has roots in Ethiopia and is still fairly rare in Colombia. Thanks as always to for bringing stunning Colombian Coffee into SA!

In addition to this rare varietal, the coffee also undergoes detailed processing with varying levels of fermentaion resulting in a complex and diverse cup, served black or with milk 💥

We’ll follow with a explainer video soon but if you’re not convinced it might help to know that Hee Ye used this coffee and placed 2nd overall at the recent .coffee Western Cape Regional Barista Competition, automatically qualifying for Nationals later this year! So, you can buy a bag online, in store or come to taste for yourself 🙂

Hee Ye is up today at the Western Cape Regionals hosted at , and we’re very keen to see her back on stage doing her thing.

She’ll be competing at 2pm and anyone is welcome to come through and watch, support, and soak up some really great coffee energy with the community.

We’re heading back to the JHB Coffee Festival this May ☕

Always a good time for us getting up to JHB and spending time with a coffee community that’s growing, curious, and genuinely excited about speciality coffee. We’ve loved building connections that side over the last while, so we’re looking forward to being back again this year.

We’ll have a mix of current releases, a few things we’ve been working on, and the usual Cedar bits at the stand.

With Leigh and Winston starting in coffee as baristas back in 2014, hospitality has always been a key element to serving a great cup of coffee. Not just the roast, the process, and the brewing 💡

As coffee people, we can often focus on the “geekiness” of coffee and chase flavour at the expense of the experience. The Albert Road store has highlighted this core principle to us in more ways than we could imagine, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to shift our CEDAR experience from online and pop-ups into in-store hospitality.

If you enjoyed last years Kenya line up from (this washed Kathande lot was a first favorite🔥) , you are in for a treat this year!

Our Kenyan lots arrived last month and we’ll be releaseing the new line up from June.

Kenya was a priority country to have on our offer list every year and we are very happy to make fresh lots available this early in the year for a second year in a row. Roasting coffee is not easy, sourcing coffee is just as hard. Big thanks to and our parters 32Cape for making this happen!

Our friends at .pastry.bar have put together a proper one 🤤 Layers of chocolate custard, silky espresso cream, and a dark chocolate + espresso ganache made using our coffee.

It’s rich, balanced, and dangerously easy to pair with your morning flat white.

UKHU JHB PUBLIC CUPPING 🥄

Our first public cupping in JHB! will be hosting us this Saturday to cup our full range of coffees PLUS incoming coffees (Untitled 73 & 74 will also be on the table 😉). We’ll have a intro session on the cupping process, coffee quality principles and some simple sensory soft skills then taste!

Bad news? ✖️ The roastery is closed till Monday so any online orders placed from now till Sunday will only be shipped out on Monday.
