There is something about the weight of a stone that tells the truth.
Pick one up. Feel the roughness under your thumb, the uneven edges, the places where it has been weathered through time. It is never perfectly smooth. It was never meant to be.

You cannot skip a layer and expect the weight above it to hold.
Relationships are built the same way. You feel it when one layer is missing. Something wobbles. Something cold moves through the space where steadiness should be.

Connect sits at the bottom because it carries everything above it. But you cannot reach Connect by leaping over the others. You have to hold each one first.

Listen until the silence stops feeling awkward.
Respect what you cannot yet fully understand.
Understand before you rush to fix.
Appreciate before you assume.

Real relationships feel like that too. Not glassy and perfect. Rough in places. Heavier than you expected when you first picked them up. Marked by pressure and time.

Only then does the stack stop wobbling and start to mean something.

Which stone feels the most solid in your relationships right now, and which one needs a little more steadying?

Perfect was never the thing to reach for. It does not exist, and the quiet chasing of it wears two people down. What a couple can build instead is growth. The slow, real work of becoming, alongside each other. That is the ground worth standing on.

What if the hard season was never the end of it, only part of the becoming? 🌿

🪶 that smell after rain has a name. Petrichor. It comes from an oil that plants release during dry spells, stored up in the soil and the stones, waiting. The rain does not create the scent. It releases what the dry ground was holding all along.

The ground was never empty. It was holding its breath.

Are you holding yours? 🌿

Can feeling like you matter be a basic human need? So why do we often treat it as a luxury.

From the moment we are born we are wired for connection. Not just for comfort. For survival. A baby that is fed but never held will fail to thrive. That is not poetry. That is biology.

And yet somewhere between childhood and adulthood we learn to need less. To ask for less. To shrink the wanting down until it feels almost shameful to admit that we still ache to belong somewhere. To someone.

That ache is not weakness. It is one of the most human things about you.

You were never supposed to feel like you do not matter. You were built to belong. Built to hold on. Built to be held.

Fun fact: sea otters hold hands while they sleep. By linking paws they create a floating group called a raft, which keeps them from drifting away from each other in the current. 🌿

Has words like self love and boundaries become a fashion cult that is raising a new generation of imbalanced adults? The self-love culture has taken the world by storm. Do not misunderstand what I am trying to say. Self-love, boundaries and most of the emotional wellness buzzwords are essential to well balanced emotional health, but I fear that the extreme focus thereon is spiralling out of control and the imbalance it has brought harbours just as much danger as the absence thereof. I almost want to compare it to unhealthy instant dieting vs a consistent healthy lifestyle. In a society (world wide) where we are daily bombarded with self love quotes, advice and 'how to' instructions, I find it interesting that the top 3 emotional wellness searches on Google is (as on 25 December 2022)“how to handle stress,” “how to stop a panic attack and “how to cure depression”. I can't help but wonder that if the extreme version of self-love is so powerful and empowering - why are so many still struggling too much, alienating themselves from support systems under the well intended banner of personal boundaries. Why do we re-post all these amazing quotes daily, but yet are not experiencing true empowerment. Why are we still not equipped to escape the tentacles of stress, depression and anxiety?

Not much research is available on the topic and I can't help but wonder if books titled 'How to not "love" yourself too much' would sell at all. After all.....Money (or book sales in this case) makes the world go round - right? What makes me wonder though....Does this frenzy make YOUR world go round? Or are many of us buying into a lie packaged beautifully as the truth - wrapped in tissue paper with a colourful bow and a get well soon card.

I truly don't believe that there are any inherent disadvantages to self-love. In fact, practising self-love can have numerous benefits, including increased self-esteem, reduced stress and anxiety, and improved overall well-being.

However, it is possible for self-love to become excessive or self-centred, which leads to negative consequences. For example, if someone becomes overly focused on their own needs and desires to the exclusion of others, they may become selfish and insensitive to the needs of those around them. Additionally, if someone becomes too obsessed with their own appearance or self-image, it could lead to unrealistic expectations, body dysmorphia, or even harmful behaviours like excessive exercising or excessive plastic surgery.

Overall, it's important to maintain a balance between self-love and consideration for others, and to practice self-love (including emotional boundaries) in a healthy and sustainable way.

I dream of a new generation rising from the ashes. A generation that is well balanced emotionally. A generation that can act with kindness, courage and confidence towards themselves, but also other people they encounter - everyday. The rise of a culture that is empowered and equipped to change the world. Self love and personal boundaries are beautiful shades of colour in the rainbow of a balanced, healthy life - BUT they are only two primary shades in a combination of 7.

FRIDAY FUN FACT:
It is difficult to determine an exact number of total colour shades because colours exist along a continuous spectrum and can be mixed and perceived differently by individuals. However, the visible spectrum of light that humans can perceive includes about 7 million colours. Additionally, with the use of technology and digital displays, a virtually infinite number of colours can be created by combining different intensities of red, green, and blue light (RGB). So, while there is no definitive answer to this question, it's safe to say that there are an enormous number of potential colour shades. By other research it has been determined hat there are somewhere around 18 decillion varieties of colours available for your viewing enjoyment. That's an 18 followed by 33 zeros.

QUESTION:
ARE YOU LIMITING THE POSSIBILITIES OF YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL BY COLOURING YOUR LIFE WITH ONLY THE THREE PRIMARY COLOURS?

An attitude of gratitude is the perfect soil to cultivate a life filled with abundance. Gratitude brings riches and complaints only poverty. The choice remains yours. The reality of this is that so many of us long to live abundant lives, but do not know how to achieve, exactly that. Many of us, do not know how to tend to a young seedling of gratitude that could grow into a lush forest of abundance living. Any behavior that has been learnt, can be unlearnt and there my friend, lies the magic of embracing the lucky-packet-little moments that make life a beautiful, rainbow coloured journey, instead of a foreign destination we never reach. How are you intentionally going to embrace abundance today?? What are you grateful for? You are never to old and it's never to late to train your brain. 🌈

UNRESOLVED TRAUMA will leave you in survival mode. Forever feeling off balance because one foot is always out the door. How long will you allow this captivity? It's time to start confronting your demons. You are deserving of a life that you don't consistently feel like you need to run from. UNRESOLVED CHILDHOOD TRAUMA creates adults who feel like scared kids on the inside. Although we occupy an adult body, when triggered we return to that wounded-child-place inside ourselves. HEAL so we don't have another generation of trauma passing itself off as culture.
