Josie McClure (SA) on saxophone and Kaat Vanhaverbeke (BE/NL) on the accordion present a uniquely curated programme that delves deep into the essence of humanity - its roots, its emotions, and its stories from places close and far-flung. The programme includes works by Majkusiak, Vanhaverbeke, Itturalde, a new commission by South African composer Matthijs van Dijk, as well as Balkan and African folk tunes.

"We come from far away, and we bring music from here, now and everywhere, we are nomads of sounds drawing inspiration from the places we have been, the places we are now, and the places that we will go to from all four corners of the earth: To Moer and Gone.".

Rediscover why Schumann's cycle remains one of the great love letters in music. Dichterliebe is a song cycle where poetry and music become one heartbeat. Love and Anguish is more than a recital - it's a story we've all lived. We follow a poet's journey from the first rush of love to longing, heartbreak, and quiet reflection. Alongside Schumann, hear the lyrical beauty of Roger Quilter's pieces, where English poetry blooms into lush, romantic melodies that shimmer like moonlight. And before the operas, there were these Italian artsong gems some were revived into opera arias years later.

Kyle Damons is a South African jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader currently completing his final year of Jazz Studies at Stellenbosch University. Influenced by both local and international jazz traditions, he has performed at various festivals and concerts, received mentorship from leading jazz musicians, and continues to develop his voice as a performer and composer.

In this concert, Kyle will present original compositions from his upcoming debut album Shadows to Sunrise. The album reflects both life’s challenges and the journey of building a career in music. Shadows represents the hardships, struggles, and obstacles that many musicians face while trying to establish themselves in the industry. Sunrise symbolizes overcoming those difficulties, gaining recognition, and growing from an aspiring musician into a professional artist. Through this music, Kyle shares a personal and inspiring story of perseverance, growth, and hope.

Kyle will be joined by a unique group of upcoming jazz musicians: Chadleigh Gower on bass guitar, Caleb Dlamini on drums, Esihle Valela on tenor saxophone, Joshua America on guitar, Keesha Thyssen on vocals, Sibabalwe Gobe Gysman on flute & vocals.
