Built in Kendwa, with Kendwa: from its architecture, to its ownership model and community initiatives, Liyongo is shaped by its context.
Liyongo makes it a point to bring local perspective into the project. The villas are built from local, sustainable materials, and construction is carried out by Mazrui Building Contractors, who have been working in Zanzibar since 1953. The ownership and investment model has been crafted and adapted to the market by advisors who have worked in the area for years, resulting in individual titling under Zanzibar's Condominium Act for clear ownership, alongside a managed rental pool.
But it isn't only about the people inside the project. Liyongo has built a partnership with Kendwa's village leadership to work together on community initiatives. Together, they are currently working towards providing clean water, education, and employment opportunities to locals. Not as one time solutions, but as a long term programme that is part of the development's foundations and remains in constant dialogue with the community's needs.
Join Liyongo founder Christopher Nash on 17 September for the “Eco-tourism and Community-Focused Hospitality” panel and hear more about Liyongo’s approach.
