Sabie Tube “Race” FAQ – Are you as confused as a rum-drunk pirate? 🏴☠️🍹🏄♂️
1️⃣ How / When / Where will the "race" start:
You can queue from anytime you’re ready. First truck leaves at 8:00, they’ll drop you and come back for more at the registration point, just outside Castle Rock.
2️⃣ Can we take drinks & beverages:
Try not to take glass on the river. Tie a bottle of pre-mix to your tube, pirate style, and top up as you float. Stay sober enough to finish on your own. Also, no sneaking booze into the shows.
3️⃣ Do you need a tube:
We would hope so. You need to buy or bring your own tube. There’s a supplier on site, but stock is limited. When you’re done, you can sponsor yours. Some tubes pop along the way; sometimes groups take a spare just to be safe.
4️⃣ Life jackets:
By the time you’re asking this, you should have already put yours on. Most parts of the river are shallow, but it’s flowing… if you can't swim, try not to die and wear yours.
5️⃣ Day tickets:
No. Sorry. There are no Saturday-only tickets. Weekend only.
6️⃣ Electricity:
Yes, the campsites have electricity. Just bring your own leads and plugs. Or make new friends and borrow from your neighbors.
7️⃣ Is the "Race" difficult:
It’s not a race per se, it’s more of a joyride. Some rapids, yes. The river has been doing this route for years. You might get a bruise or two, but hey, welcome to adventure.
8️⃣ Dress-up:
Not a dress-up weekend. Flip-flops or khakis totally fine. But the theme is pirates… so go ahead, embarrass yourself.
9️⃣ Do I need a camping chair for the shows:
No. It’s a standing area. Bar benches are available, but the best views are in the crowd in front of the shows.
🔟 Can I win the race:
Hard to say. Last year there was a person with a real giraffe leg in the campsite. Not sure what happened to the rest. So yes… you can always try.
1️⃣1️⃣ Is the event still going to happen with all the surrounding flooded areas and the river that is rising:
Weather is perfect. River flowing better than last year. Epic? Definitely.
1️⃣2️⃣ How many times can I go down:
As many times as you like. Seriously, the river doesn’t care or stop at a certain time. When there’s no more trucks to take you up, that’s when we call it a day.
1️⃣3️⃣ Age restrictions for kids:
Your kids, your responsibility. Prefer 6+ for the river, life vest mandatory for 6-10 years. For the bar, no ID = no booze. Your dad might be a pirate, but the law is still against it.
1️⃣4️⃣ When can we start camping:
You can pitch from today (Thursday 5 Feb). Welcome to early bird chaos.
1️⃣5️⃣ Is there a number I can phone:
We are pirates, not Wall Street bankers. You can’t phone us. For any further questions, post it here, or grab any of the team this weekend and ask them.
