Some materials carry a history. Others reveal it through the hands that shape them.

Meet Paul Kristafor, a Zimbabwean artist whose sculptural wood vessels celebrate the natural character of timber, embracing imperfection, irregularity and incompleteness. Self-taught in woodturning since 2019, Paul’s practice grew from a deep appreciation for the trees and landscapes of Africa, shaped by two decades working in the luxury safari industry.

Described as sacred and archaic, his vessels honour the beauty of what is raw, weathered and unfinished.

Experience his work during Solo Studios 2026, where you’ll have the opportunity to discover his latest work and meet artists in person.

What lies beneath the surface?

For South African artist Christine Koch, it’s the stories, emotions and experiences that make us human.

Working across oil, charcoal, watercolour and pastel, Koch brings her background in sociology and social anthropology into a practice deeply rooted in observation, empathy and connection. Her work asks us to look beyond what is immediately visible, and to consider what might be felt but left unspoken.

We’re looking forward to welcoming Christine Koch to Solo Studios, our 10th anniversary edition!

What happens when we change the way we look at the world?

Meet Elske Henderson, a contemporary multidisciplinary artist based in Cape Town whose practice explores the hidden systems that quietly organise the world around us — from the intricate structures of ant colonies to the towering machinery of construction sites and the shifting patterns of clouds above our cities.

Working across drawing, printmaking, painting, sculpture and mixed media, Elske explores how perspective can transform our understanding. What appears chaotic up close may reveal order from a distance, while a familiar structure can become something entirely different when viewed from another angle.

Her work invites us to pause, shift our perspective, and question what we think we know.
