Our Story

Since its inception in 2001, Kopanong has provided students and young artists the opportunity to showcase their original creative work in any language and any genre. The festival has shape-shifted over the years, but its central aims remain: to develop an entrepreneurial mindset; to create integration with real-time, real-life activities to facilitate an easier shift towards an economically active professional world; and to create a network with peers that can support each other in a very competitive working world. For the past seighteen years, the UP campus buzzed with anticipation as Kopanong drew nearer, culminating in a talent filled, action-packed week in which the pleasures of theatre, performance and film take centre stage. The festival, a project of UP Drama Department, l takes place at the University of Pretoria Hatfield Campus.
