Midnight Express Postponed

After a recce ride of the Midnight Express route was done on the weekend, the Grootrivier is still in flood and will be far too dangerous for the event to go ahead.

We are postponing the event and the new dates will be Saturday, 25th November with entries carried over to the new date. We apologise for any inconvenience and the forecast is also rain on Saturday so we believe it to be the right decision.

Patensie: The Journey Ends

Patensie lies along the R331 road just south of Noorshoek. The Kouga Dam is located several kilometres to the west. The name is Khoi in origin, and means "cattle resting place". The town is a centre for the citrus, to***co, and vegetable farms in the area.

Route Feature: The Baviaans.

Set in the Karoo Midlands, the Baviaans area features majestic mountains rising from rolling plains, with lush green valleys providing stark contrast. With stunning sunsets and clear, starry nights, the Baviaans offers a taste of life at its unspoilt best.

Known for small stock farming and for the richness of its endemic plant species, its interesting cultural heritage and its abundance of bird and animal life, the Baviaans area holds ample opportunity for outdoor recreation.

Steytlerville: The Journey begins.

On the southern fringes of the Great Karoo between the rugged Baviaanskloof Mountains and the Grootrivierberge lies Steytlerville.
The area boasts an astonishing variety of semi-desert vegetation including succulents and the surrounding mountains host some of the best preserved highly-endangered cycad habitat left in South Africa.

The environs of Steytlerville are also the home of some of the largest earthworms in the world, some measuring up to two metres in length.

Section 5: Tower to Patensie.

A distance of 14km, with 170m elevation. A descent of 943m with a few sharp climbs that could take you by surprise, so be aware of it. It is also a rough road so you could let tyre pressures down slightly to make a smoother ride. The town of Patensie, Eastern Cape, South Africa and the orange orchards await.
