Keen to help out a dedicated, hardworking cat sanctuary? Hillfest is proud to host the Animal Rescue and Rehab Centre (ARRC).

About ARRC:

ARRC is a cat sanctuary- home to over a 100 rescued cats - both feral and domestic. All the cats have names, they have a really healthy diet, all sterilized, vaccinated and vet treated as necessary. All are loved to the max and if they are not adopted they live out their lives getting the best care we can give them.

The sanctuary is in Crestholme and is open to visitors on Sundays - we work full time in Durban and run the sanctuary on our own with 2 paid helpers who work during the day. We also feed approx 50 feral cats in Durban everyday - these are also sterilized.

At the market we will be selling cat paraphernalia, plants, and small gift items as well as the Compass cat and Crow calendars as ARRC is a beneficiary.

We have a lucky draw competition at present - draw date is 30th November and the prizes are cash. We are trying desperately to raise funds for our vet bills- at present around R30 000. We will also be collecting any cat food donations.

We love getting visitors to our sanctuary and are really hoping this exposure will help get us on the map with donations, visitors and volunteers.

Visit the Feral Cat Feeding Scheme stall at Hillfest.

No matter the circumstances, Steve & Tony always perform their duties towards the welfare of these cats. Even during lock down – they regularly fed and cared for the animals – which includes cleaning the area.

This team always cooperate whenever necessary with relevant personnel, and add huge value to the Durban society, albeit hidden from publicity. Their book and white elephant stalls are always packed with good quality items.

About Meryl:
I live in Kloof, I am a trained chef, and ran my own cooking school/catering business for years. I started painting in 2008 but due to work pressure, could just dive into it now and then.

As the years have gone by, I found that it was something I just loved to do and my dream was to move into an art practice full time. I am almost there now and have been able to be much more committed in the last few years.

My inspiration is South Africa, from my garden to our trips out into game reserves and quiet places. I absolutely love nature and my purpose is for people to discover nature and experience, how it soothes our souls, through my art..
