WIN A SALT KAYAK ... just for entering

All entries in the 2026 Berg Series go into a lucky draw for a new Salt Kayak. Paddlers get one entry for each day on the water for the five races leading up to the Berg, and an entry for each day of the 2026 Berg River Canoe Marathon.

So, there are still eight entries per person available – plus a bonus entry for completing the Berg. Why not start collecting entries on Saturday at Paarl to Skooltjie?

This time next week (Saturday June 6th) it is D-Day for the 2026 Berg Series with the next event from Paarl to Skooltjie kicking off the 2026 Western Cape river season.

ARE YOU EXCITED FOR THE RIVER FUN?

A bit tired of the flatwater training and looking forward to some flowing water? We know we are! But the good news is that we are now just a week away from the start of the river season.

The second leg of the 2026 Berg Series, Paarl to Skooltjie, takes place on June 6th and from there it is mostly downstream to the 2026 Berg River Canoe Marathon.

RIVER SEASON KICKS OFF

With all the dams feeding the Berg officially sitting at high levels, the outlook for the 2026 Berg River Canoe Marathon is looking positive – and with 50 days to go it is time for the Western Cape river paddlers to dust off their splashcovers and look forward to a bumper season.

The 2026 Berg River Series restarts on June 6 followed by three weekends of back-to-back action before a break for SA Marathon Champs and then the big one, the four-day Berg River Marathon on July 15-18.

WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE ...

Paddlers preparing for the 2026 Berg River Canoe Marathon were in a buoyant mood this week with dams filling up fast and the river flowing strongly – maybe a bit too strongly at times.

There is no doubt the winter rains have arrived in the Western Cape and the omens are good for July 15-18, with those that are already committed looking forward to a "good Berg" in just over two months time.

BE IN IT, TO FINISH IT

Entries for the 2026 Berg River Canoe Marathon are open and starting to flow as fast as the rains that have arrived in the Western Cape.

Some wet weather returned to the Western Cape over the past few weeks, but paddlers are still keeping the rain dances going as the rivers slowly start rising toward their winter flow. Meanwhile, entries are are also trickling in and rumours have it that a few big names are looking at the shift in dates and have marked "Berg" on their calendars for July 15-18.

And remember, to get that prized Berg medal in Velddrif, you have to commit to being in Paarl on July 15 – enter today!

The organisers of the Berg River Canoe Marathon wish all canoeists a joyful Easter filled with love, laughter, family ... and a long weekend of good paddling.
