THE YEAR THAT WAS
As we turn the page to a new year, we look back at a vibrant, busy, and memorable 2025 — a year filled with community, culture, learning, and heritage in action.
Here’s a look at the highlights that shaped our story this past year:
📌 Q1 | AN HONOURARY GUEST
We opened the year with Western Cape Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture, Ricardo Mackenzie, visiting the Old Mission Church — affirming the significant role of heritage spaces in our province.
📌 Q2 | A TIME OF CONNECTION & LEARNING
- We welcomed our new EPWP interns, who have brought fresh energy to the museum this year.
- Former educators reunited at an Ex-Teachers’ Ladies’ Tea.
- The museum hosted the Regional Round of the ICOM Speech Competition, aligning perfectly with International Museum Day.
- Our educational programme came alive as Baden Primary and Ashbury Primêre Schools joined us for an interactive 'Show & Tell' museum experience.
📌 Q3 | A MILESTONE QUARTER OF COLLABORATION & CELEBRATION
- We hosted the Western Cape DCAS Roadshow.
- Held our Annual General Meeting.
- Marked Mandela Day with a community clean-up in Ashbury, in partnership with Montagu Cares, honouring Madiba’s legacy through service.
- Served as the anchor venue for Montagu’s 5th Annual Herb Festival Weekend.
- Celebrated the 50th Birthday of the Montagu Museum — half a century of preserving local heritage!
- Collaborated with MATA and Langeberg Municipality for meaningful Heritage Day celebrations.
📌 Q4 | A SEASON OF CREATIVITY, ACHIEVEMENT & NEW BEGINNINGS
- Hosted the Provincial Finals of the ICOM Speech Competition.
- Unveiled the refreshed look of our Museum Herb Shop.
- Launched our Fynbos Collection of Tees and Totes.
- The educational team visited local schools
- Held our inaugural Masterclass on Fynbos & Fire, presented by Dr Nicky Allsopp; kicking off what we hope will be a signature quarterly event.
