🎙️✨ LUNGISA GXABHASHE – A LEGACY OF MUSIC, EDUCATION AND EXCELLENCE ✨🎙️

Some young artists are born into music. Lungisa Gxabhashe is one of them.

As he prepares to perform at Vula Festival 2026, Lungisa carries a legacy deeply rooted in the choral traditions of Mdantsane.

His late father, Mlungisi "Bra Mlu" Gxabhashe, was a respected educator at Ulwazi High School, a dedicated choir conductor and the founder of the renowned Mdantsane Voices of Joy (MVJ). Known for his powerful tenor voice and commitment to developing young singers, Bra Mlu left an indelible mark on the choral landscape of the Eastern Cape.

Music also runs through the maternal side of the family. Lungisa's mother was herself a choral singer with Mdantsane Voices of Joy, making music not only a passion, but a family heritage.

Today, Lungisa stands as a promising young baritone soloist, continuing a journey that began long before him. Through his voice, the values of discipline, excellence, education and musical expression continue to live on.

When he takes the stage, he represents more than a performance.

He represents a family's contribution to music.
He represents a community's legacy.
He represents the future of choral excellence.

VULA FESTIVAL 2026

2nd Annual Youth Day Festival

16 June 2026 | Mdantsane

ART AT HEART MOMENT

INKULULEKO eMDANTSANE

This year marks 50 years since the historic June 16, 1976 Soweto Uprising, a defining moment in the struggle for freedom, dignity and the right to quality education for South Africa's youth.

Fifty years later, the responsibility of our generation is not only to remember the courage of 1976, but to build the future that those young people envisioned.

The Vula Festival was born from that conviction.

What began as a community initiative has now grown into its Second Annual Festival, bringing together sport, arts, culture, education and youth development under one vision: to open doors for young people.

The word Vula means "Open."

Open opportunities.
Open minds.
Open stages.
Open pathways.
Open futures.

Vula Festival recognises that talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not. Through music, poetry, visual arts, dance, sport, public speaking and cultural expression, the festival seeks to connect young people with mentorship, exposure and inspiration.

This year's programme unites learners, artists, athletes, educators, community leaders and families in a shared commitment to youth empowerment. It is a platform where young voices are heard, young talents are celebrated and young dreams are given room to grow.

As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of June 16, Vula Festival stands as more than an event. It is a movement. A declaration that the youth of today deserve platforms to learn, create, lead and excel.

From 2026 onwards, the vision is clear:

To establish Vula Festival as a premier Youth Day platform for talent development, artistic excellence, cultural preservation and community transformation in Mdantsane, Buffalo City and beyond.

The youth of 1976 fought for access.

The youth of today must be given access to opportunity.

Vula Festival exists to help open that door.

"The struggle opened the way. The youth must now walk through it."

📢 VULA FESTIVAL 2026 – HEADS UP KUBANTU BAKUTHI

South Africa ayisekho kwi-crossroads. Sele siphila iziphumo zeendlela esazikhethayo.

Emakhayeni ethu we see these with naked eyes. Sibona intswela-ngqesho, iziyobisi, ulwaphulo-mthetho, nokuphelelwa lithemba kwabanye abantu abatsha. Kodwa kwangaxeshanye sibona italente, ubuchule, ukuzimisela, kunye nomoya wokungancami.

Kulo nyaka siphawula iminyaka engama-50 ukusukela kuJuni 16, 1976.

Abantwana bango-1976 balwela ilungelo lokuva ilizwi labo. Umbuzo namhlanje uthi:

Ama2K aza kushiya liphi ilifa?

VULA FESTIVAL 2026 iza kudibanisa Arts, Craft and Sports phantsi kweqonga elinye. Hayi nje ukuzonwabisa kuphela, kodwa ukwakha, ukufundisa, ukukhuthaza nokubonisa italente yaseKasi.

Sikholelwa ukuba:

• Kwiikwayala zethu kukho iinkokeli.
• Kwiimbongi zethu kukho iingcinga ezitshintsha uluntu.
• Kubadlali bezemidlalo kukho uqeqesho neenkokeli zangomso.
• Kwiingcibi namagcisa kukho uqoqosho lwexesha elizayo.

Le ayisiyiyo nje iFestival.

Yintshukumo.

Intshukumo ethi ulutsha malungabi ngababukeli kuphela, kodwa l**e ngabantu abalijikayo ivili lembali.

1976 batshintsha imbali ngokuma.

Ama2K aza kuyitshintsha ngokudala, ngokwakha, ngokudlala nangokukhokela.
