Crisp Autumn Air and Big Milestones: Rose parkrun Event #312

The late May chill couldn't dampen the spirits at Rose parkrun this Saturday, as a vibrant crowd of 146 participants gathered to walk, jog, and run the course for Event #312. The morning was filled with a fantastic community energy, made even more special by some incredible milestones and familiar faces returning to where it all began.

A Special Homecoming and Tourist Contingent
We were thrilled to welcome a large contingent of parkrun tourists today, bringing an extra buzz to the course. Among them was a very special face from our history: Gary Johnson.

Gary, who was right there with us as one of the very first participants when Rose parkrun launched back in 2018, gave back to the event today by volunteering as our Tailwalker. It was a wonderful full-circle moment to have an original pioneer keeping everyone safe and motivated at the back of the pack.

Double Major Milestones to Celebrate
The morning belonged to two dedicated members of our community who reached massive milestones today, proving that consistency and dedication are at the heart of the parkrun spirit.

Vijay Morar – 100th parkrun
Vijay hit the magical 100 parkrun milestone today! To mark the occasion, his family brought some extra sweetness to the finish line, generously handing out celebratory chocolates to all 146 participants and volunteers. It was a well-deserved treat that put a smile on everyone’s face.

Anver Bhayat – 100th Volunteer
An event like Rose parkrun simply cannot happen without the people who wear the high-vis vests. Today, we celebrated Anver Bhayat as he completed his 100th volunteer milestone. Reaching a century of volunteering takes immense commitment, and the entire Rose parkrun family is incredibly grateful for Anver's continued dedication week after week.

Thank You!
A massive thank you to all the volunteers who made Event #312 possible, to the tourists who chose to spend their Saturday morning with us, and to Vijay and Anver for giving us such great reasons to celebrate.

See you all next Saturday at 8:00 AM—don't forget your barcode!

Community Spirit Shines Bright at Rose parkrun Event #311
The morning chill couldn’t dampen the warmth and enthusiasm at Rose parkrun in Lenasia on Saturday, 23rd May 2026. Event #311 was a vibrant celebration of community fitness, bringing together an impressive field of 156 participants who walked, jogged, and ran the beautiful course.

The field was a wonderful mix of regular familiar faces, enthusiastic first-timers taking their very first steps into the parkrun family, and visiting tourists who added a fantastic energy to the morning. Not to be outdone, a lively contingent of four-legged runners kept their owners on pace and brought plenty of smiles to the track.
Milestone Magic
Today’s event was made extra special as the community rallied together to celebrate two incredible milestones:
• Shyama Punjia Ooka reached the magnificent milestone of her 100th parkrun. Dedication like this is truly inspiring, and the sea of cheers as she crossed the finish line was well-deserved.
• Abdulla Lorgat, a familiar and beloved face on the local circuit, achieved his 150th parkrun. Not only is Abdulla a dedicated runner, but he is also a regular, dependable volunteer who embodies the true heartbeat of Rose parkrun.
Congratulations to both of you on these phenomenal achievements!
Gratitude to Our High-Vis Heroes
An event of this scale simply cannot happen without the dedicated army of volunteers who give up their Saturday mornings to make it all possible.

A massive thank you goes out to the volunteer team today who truly went above and beyond. From arriving early for park cleaning and setting up the course, to encouraging everyone as course marshals, and finally packing everything away safely—your hard work ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for everyone every single week.

Want to get involved? Rose parkrun relies entirely on volunteers. If you’d like to join the team next week, drop us a message or chat with the team at the finish line!

Until next Saturday, keep moving, stay warm, and see you at the start line!

Winter Chills and Warm Milestones: Rose parkrun Lenasia Event #310
The winter chill is officially making its presence felt, but it took more than a frosty morning to keep our dedicated community away! This Saturday, 16 May 2026, 138 passionate participants laced up their running shoes, defied the cold, and brought an incredible energy to Rose parkrun Lenasia for Event #310.
It was a beautiful morning of community spirit, made even better by the vibrant mix of local regulars, enthusiastic parkrun tourists, and, of course, our beloved four-legged fur friends who kept the pace lively. It was especially heartwarming to see so many parents wrap up warm and bring their children along to enjoy the fresh air and the outdoors—the perfect antidote to a lazy Saturday morning.

A Special Homecoming
The chilly air was instantly warmed by a very special reunion. Today, we extended an extra warm welcome back to Natasha Makkan, a visitor all the way from Centurion. Natasha is a familiar face to the Rose parkrun family, having been one of the very first CREW members to put up their hands when our parkrun first started. It was an absolute joy to have her back on the course where it all began!

Celebrating an Incredible Milestone
The highlight of the morning, however, belonged to a true pillar of our community. The entire Rose parkrun family stands together in congratulating our long-serving, 82-year-old Uncle Ismail Coovadia, who officially completed his 150th volunteer milestone today!

Uncle Ismail is the epitome of dedication and selflessness. Week after week, rain or shine (and certainly in the biting cold), he is out there ensuring our event runs smoothly. Reaching 150 volunteer milestones is an extraordinary achievement, and we are deeply grateful for his continued devotion to our community. You are an inspiration to us all, Uncle Ismail!

A Massive Thank You to Our CREW
An event like this doesn't happen without the incredible individuals who clock in before the sun is fully up. A massive thank you to our phenomenal CREW for braving the cold, standing with smiles on their faces, and keeping everyone safe and motivated.

See you all next week—same time, same place. Don’t forget your barcodes!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms in our parkrun family! 🌸💚

Thank you for every early wake-up, encouraging cheer, volunteer shift, walk, jog, run, and moment of support you bring to our communities each week. Today we celebrate you and all that you do.

Wishing you a beautiful and joy-filled Mother’s Day from all of us at parkrun South Africa 💐🏃‍♀️

Community Spirit Shines at Rose Parkrun’s 309th Milestone

The morning air in Lenasia carried a distinct buzz this Saturday, May 9th, 2026, as Rose parkrun hosted its 309th event. A vibrant crowd of 138 participants gathered at the starting line, ready to tackle the familiar 5KM course in a display of fitness, friendship, and fresh air.

A Diverse Field of Finishers
The energy was high as the whistle blew. The field was a wonderful mix of the Rose parkrun "regulars" and several newcomers:
• First-Timers: We were thrilled to welcome those taking their very first steps into the parkrun world.
• Tourists: Visitors from neighboring runs joined us, adding a bit of regional flair to the morning.
• Four-Legged Friends: It wouldn’t be a parkrun without our canine companions! Several dogs successfully completed the course, keeping their owners on pace with plenty of tail-wagging motivation.

Celebrating the "Big 50"
The highlight of the morning was the celebration of two significant personal milestones. Reaching the 50th parkrun mark is a testament to consistency and dedication. A massive congratulations goes out to:
• Muzzammil Sohail Nana
• Balwant Mithal

Earning that red milestone shirt is no small feat—it represents 250 kilometers of sweat, determination, and Saturday morning commitment. The cheers from the crowd as they crossed the finish line truly embodied the supportive spirit of the Lenasia community.

Gratitude to the Volunteers
As always, event #309 wouldn't have been possible without the "high-vis heroes." From the timekeepers to the marshals cheering at the turns, the volunteers ensured everything ran smoothly and safely for all 138 finishers.

Whether you ran, walked, or jogged, thank you for making this Saturday a memorable one. We look forward to seeing everyone back at the start line next week!

Blooming Success: Rose Parkrun Lenasia Event #308

There’s no better way to kick off the first weekend of May than with a crisp morning run, and the community at Rose Park certainly delivered. On Saturday, 2nd May 2026, Rose parkrun, Lenasia celebrated its 308th event, proving once again why it remains a cornerstone of local fitness and fellowship.

A vibrant crowd of 157 participants gathered at the starting line on Rose Avenue, ready to tackle the double-lap, 5km course. The atmosphere was electric as regular locals mingled with a healthy influx of tourists—some visiting from neighboring regions to experience the famously flat, PB-friendly cement pathways of Lenasia.

More Than Just Two-Legged Runners
True to the spirit of parkrun, the event wasn’t just for the humans. Our beloved "barkrunners" were out in full force! A significant number of four-legged participants kept their owners on their toes, adding that extra bit of joy and wagging tails to the morning’s proceedings. It was a heartwarming reminder that fitness is a family affair, paws and all.

Community in Motion
The success of Event #308 wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated team of volunteers who donned their high-vis vests to ensure everything from timekeeping to scanning ran like clockwork.

Whether you were a seasoned sprinter aiming for a personal best or a first-timer enjoying a leisurely stroll with a pram, the sense of inclusivity was palpable. As the final participants crossed the finish line, many headed over to Creme Café to swap stories over a post-run coffee—a perfect end to a successful morning.

Congratulations to all 157 of you (and your furry companions) for making Event #308 one to remember. See you next Saturday, same time, same place!
