The Strandloper Sunday Swim started out in 2018 as a long swim for those triathletes headed to Ironman a few weeks after the Blue Lagoon Tri.
Since then the clean water, simple to follow course and scenic safety of the Langebaan Lagoon has made it one of the most popular open water swims in SA.
300 swimmers enjoyed Weskus style fire roasted koffie βn biskuit on the rocks while they psyched up for a long swim following the white sand shore back to Mykonos.
The Albatross long swim drew the biggest crowds including a few elite swimmers. Those who opted to swim the shorter Gannet or Oyster catcher distances got to enjoy a leisurely scenic beach stroll collecting shells while watching the long swimmers beyond the breakers π£ππ¦
It was social and competitive, mostly a great way to introduce swimmers & triathletes to the unique joy of open water ocean swimming.
The slipway finish vibes were fun and at times emotional.
Prize giving over pizzas & beer in the sun was the ideal toasty toast to an awesome morning in pristine nature in what again turned out to be close to idyllic conditions ππ½
