The West Rand Marathon stands in deep mourning alongside the entire South African running community following the heartbreaking and tragic murder of our fellow runner, Elizabeth βTsontsoβ Moselakgomo.
For every single one of us who has ever tied up our laces and headed out for a routine run, this senseless tragedy hits devastatingly close to home. No person should ever have to fear for their life while simply exercising or taking part in the sport they love.
We refuse to let fear silence her memory or stop our strides. Running is our community, our sanctuary, and our strength. We stand in absolute solidarity with her eight-year-old daughter, her family, and everyone affected by this devastating loss.
Let us continue to stand together in unity and in powerful defiance against gender-based violence. We will keep moving forward, because our community cannot be broken, and our sister's light will never be forgotten.
Rest in perfect peace, Tsontso. ποΈβ¨
