2026 Midlands Ultra Triathlon – A Race Worth Bringing Back
Some races are more than just a start line, a finish line and a clock. They become part of the fabric of a place, a community and the memories of the athletes who have experienced the race before. The 2026 Midlands Ultra Triathlon was exactly that.
After returning to the spectacular Midmar Dam, there was a special feeling in the air and not just because of the mist! The morning began with a challenging 20-minute delay for the start as we waited for the mist to clear and conditions to become safe for our athletes. We would like to thank every competitor for their patience, understanding and professionalism. Your attitude reminded us of what makes endurance sport so special.
Once racing began, the Midlands came alive.
From the water to the bike route and onto the run, our athletes were supported by an incredible team of water-table crews from Howick High School and route marshals from the Midlands Comunnity College. Their encouragement, energy and commitment helped keep athletes moving when the legs were tired and the challenge became real. To every volunteer and member of the race team, thank you. You were an essential part of this event.
To every competitor who travelled from near and far to be part of the return of this iconic race, thank you for believing in it. Whether you conquered the Sprint, Aquabike, Ultra or tackled the challenge as part of a relay team, you helped write the first chapter of the Midlands Ultra's next generation.
And then there was Midmar Dam.
Being back in this incredible setting was something truly special. The mountains, water, countryside and atmosphere create a race environment that is difficult to replicate. There is something about racing in the Midlands that makes every kilometre feel meaningful.
The 2026 event may have been the beginning of the next chapter, but we believe it is only the beginning.
The Midlands Ultra is back, and it is going to get bigger, stronger every year.
The 2027 Midlands Ultra Triathlon is already booked for 24 October 2027. So bring your friends. Bring your family. Bring your supporters. Bring the determination.
