Midlands Ultra Triathlon Partners with Midlands Community College to Create Lasting Community Impact.

The organisers of the Midlands Ultra Triathlon are proud to announce an exciting partnership with the Midlands Community College for the 2026 event, taking place on 13th September at Midmar Dam.

The relaunch of the Midlands Ultra Triathlon has been very well received across the national Triathlon community and the event should see around 650 athletes and their families spending the weekend in the KZN Midlands in September.

The Midlands Ultra has become renowned for its challenging race routes, spectacular scenery, and world-class athlete experience, the event continues to focus on creating meaningful opportunities beyond race day. Through this new partnership, the event will provide valuable skills development opportunities and a financial contribution to support the ongoing work of the Midlands Community College and its community programmes.

Students and staff from the College will play an active role in various aspects of the event, including athlete registration, event build-up and preparation, branding installation, race management, and route management. This hands-on involvement will provide practical experience in event operations, logistics, customer service, teamwork, project management, and large-scale event coordination.

The partnership has been designed to ensure that the benefits of hosting a major sporting event extend directly into the local community. In addition to the valuable workplace exposure and skills development opportunities, the financial contribution generated through the collaboration will assist the College in continuing its important work within the Midlands region.

"Sport has the power to bring people together and create opportunities that reach far beyond the finish line," said Damian Bradley from B-Active Events. "We are excited to work alongside the Midlands Community College and create a partnership that delivers real value to students, athletes, and the wider community."

The Midlands Ultra Triathlon is expected to attract athletes, supporters, and visitors from across South Africa, bringing additional economic benefits to local businesses, accommodation establishments, restaurants, and tourism operators throughout the Midlands.

The Ultimate Test Returns as the 2027 Durban Ultra and Sun City Ultra Dates Are Officially Announced!

South Africa’s premier long-distance triathlon experiences are back bigger, tougher, and more exciting than ever, with the official launch of the 2027 editions of the Durban Ultra and the Sun City Ultra.

Following the success and demand for both of these events, athletes from around South Africa and beyond are already gearing up for what promises to be two of the country’s premier ultra-distance triathlon experiences.

The official race dates are:

• Durban Ultra – Sunday, 7 March 2027
• Sun City Ultra – Saturday, 1 May 2027

Leading the charge into the new season is the powerful 2027 campaign by-line:
“How far can you go?”

The message perfectly captures the spirit of these world-class events — pushing personal boundaries, testing physical and mental endurance, and inspiring athletes to achieve more than they ever thought possible.

The Durban Ultra will once again showcase the beauty and energy of Durban’s coastline, with warm Indian Ocean swim conditions, fast and scenic cycling routes, and an electric atmosphere on race day. The event has quickly established itself as one of Africa’s must-do endurance races and continues to attract athletes from throughout South Africa, Africa, and overseas.

The Sun City Ultra returns to the iconic Sun City Resort, offering a truly unique racing experience through spectacular surroundings, challenging terrain, and unforgettable race conditions in one of South Africa’s most famous destinations.

Importantly, both events will once again serve as official World T100 Championship Qualifying races for the South African T100 Team, giving athletes the opportunity to earn qualification spots and represent South Africa on the global stage.

A full range of race distances will be available across both events, catering for elite athletes, first-time triathletes, relay teams, and everyone in between.

Durban and Sun City Ultra Race distances:

T100 Race
• 2km Swim
• 80km Cycle
• 18km Run
Standard Race
• 1.5km Swim
• 40km Cycle
• 10km Run

Sprint Race
• 750m Swim
• 20km Cycle
• 5km Run

Exciting news for athletes eager to secure their place on the start line, organisers have confirmed that Early Bird Entries officially open on the 4th of June 2026, with a massive 20% discount available across ALL race categories for a limited period only.

The Early Bird launch special is expected to create huge demand, especially following the participation growth seen at both events in recent years. Athletes are encouraged to take advantage of the discounted entry window before standard pricing comes into effect.

The 20% discount applies to individual entries as well as relay teams, making it one of the biggest endurance sport launch specials currently available in South Africa. Organisers believe the initiative will give more athletes the opportunity to experience these internationally recognised events while rewarding loyal competitors who commit early.
