Spurgeon Flemington and his business partner, Matt, of Running Man Adventures, are working tirelessly to try and raise funds and awareness for the Bearded Vulture. They started a Rhino Peak Challenge last year on World Rhino Day and this year is their second effort to raise funds and awareness for rhinos as well as the Bearded Vulture – the “resident” of Rhino Peak. They have secured the participation of most of South Africa's top trail runners to participate… all details at www.rhinopeakchallenge.co.za (worth a visit). Everything they’ve done so far, and it’s an incredible amount, has been 100% out of their own pocket –it is a completely non-profit event with 100% of all proceeds going to the Vulture Project and Rhino tracking project. The Bearded Vulture is the symbol of our mountainous world heritage site, and needs as much support as possible to try and stop their slide into extinction. With only about 300 birds left in our mountains, now is the moment to support initiatives like this one, run by people with an enormous amount of courage and kindness who are desperately trying to do something to protect and preserve the species.
On the 22 September 2016, South Africa’s top Trail Runners and influential people from all walks of life will participate in the Rhino Peak Challenge.
